Music has no expiration date.
Or at least that’s what can be observed from the Billboard Philippines Hot 100 Chart this week (dated September 14, 2024). Ranging from international smash hits to local favorites, a number of tracks have resurfaced on the Billboard Philippines Hot 100 Chart. These tracks show how, through elements like catchy melodies and relatable and memorable lyrics, songs never really disappear from one’s daily rotation.
Other factors in the past week also influenced the return of certain songs into the chart. Lola Amour’s “Raining In Manila” accompanied the stormy weather brought by the recent typhoon, while Sugarfree’s “Burnout” rung in the “-ber” months with karaoke season now coming in. As the temperatures have cooled down from the past summer, moodier songs fit for chilly weather have started to trend.
Join us as we wind through this week’s list of Billboard Philippines Hot 100 re-entries.
No. 68: “Yellow” – Coldplay
The London superstar band is making an appearance on the charts once again with their classic “Yellow” from their 2000 debut album Parachutes — a defining album that made the band who they are today. Placing at No. 68 of the Billboard Philippines Hot 100, the heartfelt love song proves its evergreen nature. The band recently made a two-day stop in Manila for their Music of the Spheres Tour last January 19 and 20. Their next full-length album, Moon Music, is also set to drop on October 4.
No. 75: “Iris” – The Goo Goo Dolls
Alt-rock legends The Goo Goo Dolls also have a point to prove with their hit track, “Iris,” making its way back onto the Billboard Philippines Hot 100 once again. As a certified karaoke classic, the song’s longevity is one to be marveled at as the song was originally released back in 1998 on the band’s sixth album, Dizzy Up The Girl. With its relatable lyrics and catchy tune, the track echoes feelings of longing and yearning, which clearly resonate with Filipino listeners as it returns to the chart at the No. 75 position.
No. 83: “Raining In Manila” – Lola Amour
Maybe it’s the weather, but Lola Amour’s “Raining in Manila” has been trending again. Undeniably fun and irresistibly catchy, the song keeps its listeners warm on stormy days. Originally released in June of last year, the OPM funk-pop band’s hit single has garnered 149 million streams on Spotify alone. On the first day of Coldplay’s concert in Manila, Lola Amour performed this viral track alongside the Coldplay members, showcasing the its infectiousness beyond language barriers.
No. 90: “Standing Next to You” – Jung Kook
The Bangtan Sonyeondan maknae has returned to the Billboard Philippines Hot 100 with his viral funky track, “Standing Next to You.” The song comes from his debut full-length album Golden, which premiered last November 3, 2023. In honor of the track’s popularity, Jung Kook released eight different remixes for this song, with one involving a feature from R&B icon Usher. The K-pop star also recently released a single, “Never Let Go,” as a heartfelt homage to his fans and supporters.
No. 92: “Kisame” – Rhodessa
Establishing the song’s identity as a viral OPM hit, “Kisame” has made its way back into the Billboard Philippines Hot 100. Breakout star Rhodessa originally dropped this single in February of last year, but the song has evidently never left listeners’ playlists. Its intimate lyrics and warm riffs are the sure formula for an irresistible earworm. Rhodessa also performed the smash hit on Billboard Philippines’ Soundwave, which can be watched here.
No. 96: “Burnout” – Sugarfree
An early 2000’s classic, “Burnout” by OPM legends Sugarfree has resurfaced in the chart once again. The sweet love song conveys a message of companionship and commitment, proving its evergreen and long-lasting themes. The song was originally released in the band’s 2003 album, Sa Wakas, accompanied by other popular tracks like “Mariposa” and “Telepono.” Singer Ebe Dancel also recently commemorated the 20th anniversary of the band’s second album, Dramachine, in January this year with a concert.
No. 97: “Pagsamo” – Arthur Nery
Following right behind Sugarfree at No. 97 on the Billboard Philippines Hot 100 is Arthur Nery with his smash hit “Pagsamo.” The downbeat R&B heartbreak anthem was originally released in 2021, and from then it has been immortalized as a household OPM staple. Nery also recently collaborated with fellow artist Janine Berdin on their romantic anime-inspired duet, “Mikasa.” The hitmaker is set to hold his second-ever solo concert this coming October, following his debut concert last July 2022.
