Last May 19 marked the end of ABS-CBN’s franchise of The Voice of the Philippines and its spin-off shows, The Voice Kids and The Voice Teens. Over the past 10 years, the talent show has given a platform to some of the most talented Filipino singers — whether they won the show or not.

Some of the country’s most prominent artists are alumni of the show, from chart-toppers like Moira dela Torre and Juan Karlos to indie favorites like Kai Honasan. Not only that, many of the show’s former participants have gone on to be regulars in variety shows like ASAP, It’s Showtime, and the likes.

As we anticipate what The Voice of the Philippines and The Voice Kids will look like under the GMA Network, we ranked the top 10 best alumni of The Voice of the Philippines and its spin-offs based on accolades like awards, chart numbers, and overall performance today. Check out who got our number one spot below.

10. Kai Honasan

Starting off the list is Kai Honasan, whose ukelele rendition of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” made coaches Apl de Ap, Lea Salonga, Sarah Geronimo, and Bamboo turn around during auditions. Honasan made it to the top 16 of Season 2, before she was eliminated during the live show.

A year before joining the competition, she released her twee-pop, quirky debut album In Your Face And Other Songs About Other Faces. She also gained prominence as a vocalist and keyboardist for the pop rock band Autotelic. In 2022, she shared in a YouTube video that she’s returning to music as Kai del Rio (after marrying Chicosci bassist Eco del Rio). While she hasn’t released anything yet, she teased on her Instagram that she may be cooking up something with Tower of Doom Records.

She may not have won The Voice, but she charted her own path in the music industry that many talent show alumni don’t take: the indie, rock, and band scene. She definitely deserves a spot on this list for her contributions to the local music scene.

9. Dave Lamar

Dave Lamar joined the inaugural season of The Voice way back in 2013, where he became a part of Team Sarah. While he lost during the battle rounds, that didn’t stop him from also finding his own path in music. In the years since then, Lamar has involved himself in different parts of the music industry, from songwriting to music production for the record label Underdog Music. His project with his wife and fellow The Voice alum Morissette, From The Sea, was nominated for three Awit Awards back in 2022.

7. Jason Dy

Season 2’s winner Jason Dy has come a long way since his time on the show, now becoming a regular on the noontime show ASAP. While he’s been showcasing his ballad chops on TV, Dy shines best in R&B-pop music. His latest single, “Magsabi Ka Lang” (Just Say The Word) has thumping, heavy beats that accentuate the range of his voice — whether he’s belting out a note or singing in falsetto. He was nominated for an Awit Award back in 2017 for his track, “Pano Na Lang” (How).

8. Daryl Ong

Balladeer Daryl Ong joined Team Apl on Season 2 of The Voice, where he established himself as vocal powerhouse. Who could forget his soulful riffs and strong belt, especially with his rendition of Whitney Houston’s “The Greatest Love of All”? After his stint on the show, Ong went on to become an award-winning artist, winning the Awit Award for Best Performance by a New Male Recording Artist at the 29th edition of the awards show.

6. Klarisse de Guzman

The “Philippines Soul Diva” Klarisse de Guzman has that moniker for a reason: her dulcet rich voice carried her all the way to the finals of the inaugural season of the show. She went on to clinch the grand prize at Your Face Sounds Familiar a few years later. Over the years, she’s had a hefty number of nominations and awards under her belt from numerous award-giving bodies like the Awit Awards, Wish Music Awards, PMPC Star Awards for Music, and more.

Honorable Mentions

Before we reveal our top five picks, here are two of our honorable mentions that are too notable to leave out of the ranking.

Zephanie

The multihyphenate Zephanie is a force to be reckoned with in today’s entertainment industry, with some even calling her “This Generation’s Pop Princess.” While she had her start in The Voice Kids, we opted to make her an honorable mention due to the fact that her biggest break came when she was crowned as the first-ever winner of Idol Philippines. Nevertheless, she is still one of the most successful talents to come out of the whole talent competition side of the industry.

Kyle Echarri

Kyle Echarri is one of the Philippines’ most recgonizable actors of today, but his first love has always been singing. While it seems that he’s gone full force in his acting career, his recent collaboration with fellow The Voice Kids alum Juan Karlos, “Kasing-Kasing” (Heart), shows that he still has tremendous singing talent after all these years.

5. Darren Espanto

The Voice Kids has produced a number of today’s biggest performers, and Darren Espanto is one of them. He joined the show when he was just 13 years old, wowing Coach Sarah and Coach Bamboo with his rendition of Jessie J’s “Domino.” As early as then, all the coaches knew that there was star power brimming in him, and now, the singer is celebrating 10 years in the music industry. His albums have been certified platinum and double platinum, he’s staged multiple solo concerts and performed in concerts all over the world, and he’s gone on to become a TV show host, a dancer, an actor, and more.

4. Morissette

Asia’s one and only “Phoenix” Morissette joined the first edition of The Voice, where she proceeded all the way to the semifinals. She has become a celebrated singer, not just in the Philippines, but internationally. She has won two Awit Awards, over 30 Wish Music Awards, and most recently, she was named as the inaugural recipient of the Billboard Philippines Women in Music People’s Choice Award. Her career in the industry is not one to be undermined, and she continues to work on new music today.

3. Juan Karlos

Juan Karlos is an artist whose name needs no introduction. The singer-songwriter has come a long way since singing “Grow Old With You” on The Voice. He had the chart-topping and multi-awarded “Buwan” (Moon), which has over 155 million streams on Spotify. His latest chart-topping hit, “Ere” (Air), became the first Filipino song to ever enter the Billboard Global Excl. US chart, debuting at the 138th spot. It also landed spots on Spotify’s Top Songs Global chart.

2. Zack Tabudlo

When Zack Tabudlo auditioned for The Voice Kids back when he was 12 years old, no one would’ve expected him to become one of the country’s most prominent Filipino artists today. In 2021, Tabudlo’s “Binibini” (Miss) was named as Spotify’s most streamed Filipino song of the year. It also broke the record for the longest-running No. 1 song on the Philippines Top 50 Chart. During the creation of the Billboard Philippines Songs Charts, “Pano” (How) clinched the number one spot for 11 weeks, and remained there for 30 weeks. It was the longest-reigning number one single of 2022. In 2023, he was also the most streamed male OPM artist for two years in a row on Spotify, and second overall OPM artist after Ben&Ben.

1. Moira dela Torre

Our number one alum of The Voice is none other than the one and only, Moira dela Torre. Before she became the powerhouse she is today, she joined Team Apl in season one of the reality show. While she didn’t make it far in the competition, she didn’t need to — she went on to win Himig Handog as the interpreter of the Libertine Amistoso-penned “Titibo-tibo” (Heart Beating). The rest, as they say, is history. Her debut record, Malaya (Free), broke multiple charts, leading her to be named as Spotify’s most streamed OPM artist in 2018. It was also the best-selling album in 2018, and was certified eight-times platinum. Her second record, Patawad (Forgiveness), was also certified Platinum. Most recently, she was honored as the inaugural recipient of the Billboard Philippines Women in Music Hitmaker Award last March. For all these reasons and more, it’s clear that Moira dela Torre has undoubtedly the biggest star of The Voice.
