This year, in line with the arrival of Billboard Philippines, a Filipina will grace the global stage and be awarded at Billboard‘s Women In Music, an annual awards show that honors the most influential women in the music industry.
For their 2024 edition, they will be putting the spotlight on a born-and-raised Filipina artist for the very first time, recognizing her influence on Filipino music and her impact on the global market. More than just being a household name, she has showed consistency and excellence in her craft, and continues to be relevant to her listeners, wherever they are in the world.
Wanting to represent the Philippines with the utmost pride, Billboard Philippines nominated an all-around performer whose talents and artistry knows no bounds. She is an artist that has carved out a place in the industry that’s distinctly hers and continuously blazed a trail for young women and aspiring artists — embodying not only Billboard Philippines‘ mission to connect homegrown music to the world but also what it truly means to be a Filipina. From top-selling concerts to chart-topping hits, she’s undoubtedly a commanding force in Filipino music.
At the event, happening this March 6 in Los Angeles, California, she will be awarded alongside Billboard’s 2024 list of honorees including Woman of the Year Karol G, as well as NewJeans, Victoria Monét, Kylie Minogue, Young Miko, Tems, Ice Spice, Charli XCX, Maren Moris, and Luísa Sonza.
Billboard‘s Women of the Year is an annual event that not only awards performing artists, singers, and musicians, but all women in music including composers, producers, songwriters, music critics and journalists, and music educators. Beyond their coveted Women of the Year — which has previously seen awardees like Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, SZA, and Olivia Rodrigo, the event also has categories such as the Chart-topper Award, Breakthrough Artist, Game Changer Award, and more that award women for their various contributions to the industry.
The prestigious event has long been a stage to celebrate and honor women who have made significant contributions to the music industry. Since its inception in 2007, they’ve spotlighted the most exciting names in the industry like Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, Madonna, Ariana Grande, Aretha Franklin, Alanis Morissette, and more. Through the years, they’ve continued to recognize women in music all across the world, expanding their awards to artists outside of Western markets including the likes of K-pop group girl TWICE and Puerto Rican singer Ivy Queen in 2023.
Filipina artists have always been praised for their command of the stage, their incomparable vocals, and their impeccable artistry, both at home and on the global stage. So, it’s high time that they earned a place at Billboard‘s internationally coveted event alongside some of the most powerful women in music today, and we’re proud that one of them will finally be recognized this year.
Stay tuned for Billboard‘s first Filipina Women In Music honoree, slated to be announced soon.
