Philippine pop royalty Sarah Geronimo has been chosed by Billboard Philippines to be awarded the Global Force Award at this year’s Billboard Women in Music Awards in Los Angeles, California.

The announcement came at February 24 Philippine time via Billboard’s social media pages. This is the first time a born-and-raised Filipina has been awarded since the award ceremony’s conception in 2007. Geronimo joins Brazilian singer-songwriter Luísa Sonza and Italian artist Annalisa as the first set of honorees for the award. 2024 also marks the first year that the Global Force award was introduced as part of the awards ceremony.

The event is slated to happen on March 6 (Pacific Standard Time) at the YouTube Theater. The event will be made available for watching on March 7 via Billboard’s website.

Other awardees include Maren Morris for Visionary, K-Pop breakout girl group NewJeans for Group of the Year, Tems for Breakthrough, Victoria Monét for the Honda Rising Star award, and Young Miko for the American Express Impact award. This year’s Women of the Year honoree is Colombian singer Karol G, who has won several GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY awards, Billboard Music Awards, Billboard Latin Music Awards, and a previous Billboard Women in Music award for Rulebreaker.

With a career spanning 20 years in the music industry, she has been given numerous accolades by both local and international award giving bodies. She has won over 15 Awit Awards, an Mnet Asian Music Award, an MTV Europe Music Award, a World Music Award, and more. Her songs have amassed over millions of streams a piece, garnering over a million monthly listeners on Spotify.
