Throughout this past year, we’ve seen OPM come into its own in all its forms and various styles of sound.

Billboard Philippines has collected the highest-charting Filipino songs of this year; these include the biggest and most era-defining local music to come out of 2024. Throughout the year, we’ve had chart-toppers ranging from Maki’s all-conquering “Dilaw” to Dionela’s wave of smash hits — “Sining” and “Marilag.” We felt love in the air as TJ Monterde and KZ Tandingan’s “Palagi” reigned supreme, taking over the tropical soundwaves with a heartwarming and sincere ode to love and commitment.

In 2024, P-pop also had its respective boom, as BINI spun the chart on its head. With their viral summer anthem, “Pantropiko,” the girl group made history as the first-ever P-pop act to top the Billboard Philippines Top Philippine Chart since its inception. Additionally, our local hip-hop scene has received its fair share of time in the limelight as numerous tracks by Downtown Quezon City’s very own Hev Abi dominated the charts with his infectiously catchy singles.

With all this in mind, there’s no predicting the Philippine climate in music. There’s a multitude of reasons that a song can become a smash hit, but for sure, what sticks to the Filipino audience is a sense of openness and relatability. On that note, Billboard Philippines introduces the Top 25 Philippine Songs that dominated the country’s soundscape this 2024.

Found at the very top of the Billboard Philippines Top Philippine Songs of the Year chart is TJ Monterde’s year-defining chart-topper, “Palagi.” The song cascades waves of love and comfort to its listeners, and it’s no surprise that, perhaps for that very reason, it’s become the most circulated track of this year.

BINI dominate a big chunk of the chart, as a number of their beloved tracks have made it into mass recognition. The girl group take up the No. 13 slot with their motivational pop hit, “Karera,” and “Salamin, Salamin” stands at the No. 4 position. Their widely-loved summer smash hit, “Pantropiko” is places third on the overall Top Philippine Songs chart.

Maki has had a great year as well, as his hit tracks “Saan” and “Dilaw” sit at positions No. 14 and No. 2 respectively. Up Dharma Down makes a return on the chart at No. 12 with their immortal synth ballad, “Tadhana,” and Arthur Nery’s contemporary R&B hit makes it to No. 10 of the chart. Cup of Joe and Janine Teñoso attain the No. 9 position of the chart with “Tingin,” and Dionela’s smash collaborative hit with Jay R, “Sining” sits at No. 4 of the chart.

As a result of his assertion over the Philippine hip-hop industry, Hev Abi makes several appearances on the chart, accumulating a number of five songs in total. He starts off his reign at No. 15 with “Lil Kasalanan Shortie,” and at No. 11 with his joint work with Kristina Dawn, “Makasarili Malambing.” Taking up positions No. 6 through No. 8 respectively, “Walang Alam,” “Babaero,” and “Alam Mo Ba Girl” dominate the Top 10 of the chart.

Orange & Lemons also show their evergreen colors as their 2005 ballad “This Angel Has Flown” makes its way onto the No. 19 position of the chart. Switching up the energy, O Side Mafia and BRGR follow soon after at No. 18 with their powerful rap anthem “Get Low.” Adie and Janine Berdin paint the chart with their enchanting colors at No. 17 with “Mahika.” At one place higher is Rob Deniel with “Miss Miss” at No. 16.

At No. 23, we have Rob Deniel’s sweet serenade, “Rom Com,” and in the theme of love songs, following shortly after is Nobita’s “Ikaw Lang.” Ben&Ben place at No. 21 with “Sa Susunod Na Habang Buhay,” making waves even past the song’s release back in 2020. Viral smash hits seem to play a big role on the Billboard Philippines Charts this year as Cean Jr.’s “YK” makes an appearance at No. 20 of the Top Philippine Songs Chart.

Placing at the No. 25 spot of the chart is the contemporary R&B hit, “Marikit Sa Dilim” by Juan Caoile, Kyleswish, and Jawz. The song went viral on multiple social media platforms; it’s an earworm with a catchy hook that’s sure to be played more than once in one sitting. On No. 24, we’re bringing back a (somewhat) oldie but (surely) goodie with “Unti-Unti” by Up Dharma Down. In spite of being originally released in 2017, the band’s grip on Philippine listening habits remains clear as this song continues to circulate.
