Angeline Quinto: 15 Years Of Living The Dream

As Angeline Quinto celebrates 15 years in the local music industry, the “Queen of Teleserye Theme Songs” and “Power Diva” has come a long way.

Longevity is no easy feat in the local music scene, which continues to evolve over the years, with rising acts stepping into the spotlight.

This isn’t the case for Angeline, who is best known for her exceptional vocal range and her ability to bring songs about love, heartbreak, and everything in between to life. More than a decade into her career, her voice has become closely associated with the soundtracks and theme songs of various Filipino television series and films.

The stage is set for her 15th anniversary concert, ‘AQUIN5E,’ a nostalgic celebration of the milestones and triumphs that have cemented her status as the one and only “Power Diva.” Ahead of her much-awaited concert, Billboard Philippines speaks with Quinto about this milestone, a look back on her journey in the industry, and what the next years looks like.

“Para sa AQUIN5E, ang makikita nila sa stage ay ang ‘unstoppable dreamer’ na Angeline Quinto. Dito ko maipapakita na sa fifteen years ko sa industriya, hindi ako tumigil mangarap at tuparin ang mga pangarap na iyon,” Quinto shares.

(“For AQUIN5E, what audiences will see on stage is Angeline Quinto, the “unstoppable dreamer.” This is where I can show that throughout my 15 years in the industry, I never stopped dreaming and turning those dreams into reality.”)

The celebration concert is itself one of her biggest dreams come true, serving as motivation for her to surpass what she has achieved thus far, both as an artist and as an individual. “Sa mga na-experience ko for the past 15 years, unti-unti nang nakukumpleto ang kuwento ng journey ko at ng mga pangarap ko, kaya ang AQUIN5E ay isang paraan ko na rin para pasalamatan ang lahat ng naging parte ng kuwentong ito,” she adds.

(“After everything I’ve experienced over the past 15 years, the story of my journey and my dreams is slowly coming together. That’s why AQUIN5E is also my way of thanking everyone who has been a part of this story.”)

Although the concert is a testament to her legacy and achievements, it also serves as a way for her to express gratitude to the people who believed in her along the way. Her journey wouldn’t be complete without those who continue to support her and find inspiration in her music. “Sobrang laking pasasalamat ko sa mga patuloy na nakikinig sa music ko. Hindi lang dahil sinusuportahan nila ako, kundi dahil naging paraan din ako para ma-inspire silang huwag mawalan ng pag-asa na tuparin ang sarili nilang mga pangarap,” she explains.

(“I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who continues to listen to my music. It’s not just about their support; I’m also grateful that, in some way, my music has inspired them not to lose hope in pursuing their own dreams.”)

Just as the milestone calls for a special celebration, Quinto brings together a diverse lineup of performers, singers, and personalities from different corners of OPM and the Philippine entertainment industry.

Reflecting the supportive community within the local music scene, she shares how grateful she is to feel the love from the industry, “Hindi ako nahirapan na mapa-oo sila na maging bahagi ng 15th anniversary ko. Sobrang grateful ako na makakasama ko silang i-celebrate ang milestone kong ito. Nakakataba talaga ng puso.”

(“It wasn’t difficult to convince them to say ‘Yes’ and be part of my 15th anniversary celebration. I’m incredibly grateful to have them by my side as I celebrate this milestone. It truly warms my heart.”)

Fifteen years in, Quinto has spent much of her career interpreting songs written by other people. Looking back on her early days, she reveals that she would choose songs that challenged her vocally and showcased what she was capable of as a performer. As the years went by, she began to see things differently, saying, “Mas iba na ’yung hinahanap kong mga kanta. ’Yung may totoong connection sa kung sino ako, sa mga pinagdaanan ko, at sa mga bagay na gusto kong sabihin.“

(“I look for something different in the songs I sing — those that have a genuine connection to who I am, what I’ve been through, and the things I want to say.”)

It’s as if she was telling other people’s stories, interpreting their songs and the stories of teleseryes. But at this point, she is more than ready to let everyone know and hear her story. “Gusto ko na ’yung music ko ay mag-reflect na to what I’ve become after 15 years: ’yung growth, lessons, vulnerabilities, pati ’yung mga bagay na hindi ko pa kayang sabihin noon,” she shares.

(“I want my music to reflect who I’ve become after 15 years: the growth, the lessons, the vulnerabilities, and even the things I wasn’t able to say before.”)

With her long association with teleserye (soap opera) theme songs, it feels fitting that she now gets to tell a story of her own. When asked which teleserye theme song could soundtrack her life at this very moment, it would be her new single, “Hindi Mawawala.”

“Kasi parang itong song na ito rin ang love letter ko para sa family ko at sa lahat ng patuloy na nagsu-support sa akin. Sila ’yung nagbibigay sa akin ng lakas para magpatuloy through their love sa akin at sa music ko,” she explains.

(“Because this song also feels like a love letter to my family and to everyone who continues to support me. Their love for me and my music gives me the strength to keep going.”)

“Meron ring line sa song na ito na ‘Ang nagbigay sa akin ng buhay, oksihina sa ’king paghinga, ’di kayang mawala.’ Para sa akin, iyon talaga ang family ko, ’yung mga taong mahal ko at nagmamahal sa akin, at ’yung mga naging bahagi ng journey ko,” she adds.

(“There’s also a line in the song that goes, “The one who gave me life, the oxygen that keeps me breathing, can never be lost.” For me, that truly represents my family, the people I love and who love me, and everyone who has been part of my journey.”)

Now a mother of two, Quinto adds that motherhood has changed the way she sings, allowing her to connect more deeply with her emotions and her relationship with music. “Mas naging malalim na ’yung pagkakaintindi ko sa ‘unconditional love.’ Because of my kids, sinusubukan ko na ring mag-explore ng music na mae-enjoy rin nilang pakinggan. Kaya rin namin nabuo ang ‘Princess B’ na mas colorful at mas energetic,” she notes.

(“My understanding of ‘unconditional love’ has deepened. Because of my kids, I’m also trying to explore music that they can enjoy listening to. That’s also why we created ‘Princess B,’ which is more colorful and energetic.”)

Being a mother has added a layer to Angeline Quinto — the artist. The deeper the hugot and being more open to and embracing evolution as a singer are what drive her today to pour her heart into every song she sings.

Closing in on fifteen years in her career, this also serves as the beginning of a new chapter for Quinto. When asked where she sees herself in the next five, ten, or even fifteen years, she attributes it to longevity and remaining a part of the greater OPM scene. “Nakikita ko sa mga susunod na taon na nandito pa rin ako. Hindi pa rin ako titigil kumanta at mag-share ng music para makapag-inspire ng tao, at hindi ako titigil mangarap para sa sarili ko at para sa pamilya ko,” she shares.

(“I see myself still being here in the years to come. I won’t stop singing or sharing music to inspire people, and I won’t stop dreaming; not just for myself, but for my family, too.”)
