A total of 17 Filipino acts are all charting simultaneously in Billboard’s Philippines Songs within the same week, setting an all-time record high for this feat. In other words, songs by Filipino artists take 17 of the top 25 spots in the local charts in competition with foreign acts.
The artists who are part of this major milestone for Filipino music are Juan Karlos at No. 1, followed by Lola Amour, Cean Jr., DĖMI and Madman Stan, Zack Tabudlo and Al James, Rhodessa, Arthur Miguel, Dilaw, SunKissed Lola, Maki, Adie and Janine Berdin, Hev Abi, and Cup of Joe and Janine Teñoso. Their respective charting hits include the likes of “ERE”, “Raining in Manila,” “YK,” “Homebdy,” “Gusto,” “Kisame,” “Lihim,” “Uhaw,” “Pasilyo,” “Saan?,” “Mahika,” and “WELCOME2DTQ”.
Meanwhile, songs by foreign acts currently on the chart include Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” at number two and Jungkook’s “Seven” and “3D” at number three and four consecutively.
This news comes after Juan Karlos’ “ERE” became the latest Filipino song to rank atop the music chart last week.
The Billboard’s Philippines Songs chart ranks the top tracks based on streaming and sales activity from within the country. “The ranking is based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of leading audio and video music services, plus download sales from top music retailers within the territory,” reads the chart’s accompanying information.
