Fresh from his military duties, BTSJin is set to represent his home country of South Korea at the 2024 Olympics.

The K-pop superstar is expected to fulfill the role of the country’s torchbearer at the Paris 2024 Olympic Torch Relay, as announced yesterday (July 2). Though more details are expected to be released closer to the beginning of the famed sporting event, South Korea’s representatives have stated that they hope that Jin’s participation will promote “harmony” and “peace” according to the official press release.

Since the 1936 Berlin Summer Olympics, the Olympic Torch Relay serves as a ceremonial event preceding each set of games and involves the Olympic flame traveling from Olympia, Greece through various countries before concluding at the host city’s venue.

The Paris Summer Olympics is set to commence on July 26 through August 11, with Jin being the second popular musician set to grace the international sporting event. It was announced earlier this year that hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg would be joining NBC’s reporting team for the games, providing “regular reports” on the Olympic Primetime Show.

“I grew up watching the Olympics and am thrilled to see the incredible athletes bring their A-game to Paris. It’s a celebration of skill, dedication, and the pursuit of greatness,” Snoop said. “We’re going to have some amazing competitions, and of course, I will be bringing that Snoop style to the mix. It’s going to be the most epic Olympics ever, so stay tuned, and keep it locked. Let’s elevate, celebrate, and make these games unforgettable, smoke the competition, and may the best shine like gold. Peace and Olympic LOVE, ya dig?”

After completing his mandatory military service in Korea last month, Jin celebrated by reuniting with his BTS bandmates, who were all given leave to commemorate the occasion. Though his fellow bandmates are still performing their military duties, it hasn’t stopped either of them from dropping new music –– as exemplified by the upcoming releases of Jimin, Jungkook, and V.
