The people have spoken and they have chosen Morissette, Asia’s Phoenix herself, as the first ever recipient of the Billboard Philippines Women In Music People’s Choice award, presented by cosmetics brand Y.O.U Beauty, at the Samsung Hall in SM Aura on March 22.
The award was personally presented to the influential performer by her husband, fellow singer-songwriter Dave Lamar. The duo were both on The Voice of the Philippines‘ first season in 2013 and also make up the music project tandem From The Sea.
“Thank you Ms. Jolina, thank you Billboard Philippines, and thank you to all the MOWIEnatics who voted for my beautiful and talented partner in life,” remarked Lamar as he presented the award. “I am happy and honored to be presenting the love of my life, my one and only diva, the Billboard Philippines People’s Choice Awardee.”
Last February 29, Morissette was revealed to be a nominee for the Billboard Philippines Women In Music People’s Choice award, a fan-voted category spotlighting trailblazing and game-changing Filipinas in the music realm. After the polls happened from February 29 to March 20, Morissette eventually came out to have amassed the most votes and thereby winning the category.
Alongside Morissette, the other awardees for the first Billboard Philippines Women In Music event are Pilita Corrales for the Icon award, BINI for the Rising Star award Moira Dela Torre for the Hitmaker award, Ena Mori for Rule Breaker award, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid for the Powerhouse award, as well as Billboard Women In Music Global Force honoree Sarah Geronimo for the Woman of the Year award. Earlier in the evening, actress-singer Belle Mariano was also revealed to be the one taking home the fan-voted Billboard Philippines Women In Music Listeners’ Choice award.
