Vincent Eco has released the first single from his upcoming EP.

This Friday, September 6, the Cebuano singer-songwriter is came out with “Baby” — the follow-up to his 2023 tracks “If You Leave” and “You Are My Universe.” It serves as the first single and the third track overall of Eco’s soon-to-be-released six-song concept EP entitled Sa May Baybayon, set to be released later this year.

In a press statement, “Baby” is described as showcasing “fresh sound that diverges from [his] previous folk-acoustic style, moving deeper into modern pop rock territory.” Hand in hand with this, the track “continues to reflect the heart-wrenching emotional depth that Eco has come to be known for.” It “poignantly captures the moment one realizes their partner’s love has faded” — a theme consistent with the story of Sa May Baybayon. According to Eco himself, the EP “narrates a journey from being in love with someone to becoming a stranger and moving on.”

Furthermore, Eco describes Sa May Baybayon as “one of the best and proudest record[s] I’ve made,” not simply because listeners can “expect a different wave of emotions from each track of the EP,” but ultimately, because of the people involved in in its creation. Notably, the EP was co-produced by Irish producer David Prendergast (Kodaline, Paul Alwright, Overhead The Albatross and Eco’s band The Sundown) and was recorded by Tim Williams at Capital Dreams Studio in Cebu.

For “Baby,” singer-songwriter Diane Tungol (Alice Who and SUGARKISS) provided additional vocals on the track, Eco’s The Sundown bandmate Alden Panes provided drums, while Eco’s longtime collaborator Kyle Cua played bass. Meanwhile, the visual side of “Baby” and the EP was handled by creative director Nikko Tan.

Hailing from Cebu, Vincent Eco released his debut album Kiss and Disappear last 2018. Known for being a multi-instrumentalist, Eco also serves as one of the guitarists of Cebu rock supergroup The Sundown. His latest single “You Are My Universe” was released almost a year ago on September 22, 2023.
