The 2024 Billboard Music Awards are just around the corner, with pop stars like Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter leading the charge as the most nominated finalists for the highly anticipated awards show.
Produced by Dick Clark Productions, this year’s awards ceremony will be hosted by actress and comedian Michelle Buteau and takes place on December 12, 2024, at 8 PM EST/PT. Swift, who holds the title of the most decorated female artist in BBMA history, holds a total of 16 nods — notably for her chart-topping album 1989 (Taylor’s Version), the global smash hit “Cruel Summer,” and another for Top Artist. Also competing for the latter is Carpenter, who is a finalist in nine categories, including Top Female Artist and Top Hot 100 Artist.
Aside from the domination of the two female pop heavyweights, American musician Zach Bryan leads the pack as one of the most prolific finalists — holding a total of eighteen nods across several top-tier categories. Following closely behind is fellow country singer Morgan Wallen, who dominated the 2023 BBMAs with an impressive set of eleven wins, and is back with fifteen finalist spots.
The Billboard Music Awards is set to honor the year’s biggest artists, albums, songs, producers, and songwriters across multiple genres, as determined by the acquired yearend performance metrics on the Billboard charts. Eligibility falls under Billboard’s Year-End Charts tracking period, which measures music consumption patterns from the charts dated October 28, 2023, until October 19, 2024. It will also be streamed worldwide through the Fox and Fire cable television channels, and on-demand on Paramount+ in the United States, with performances also rolling out across Billboard.com, and via both the BBMAs and Billboard social channels.
“We are thrilled to bring the 2024 Billboard Music Awards to multiple platforms, ensuring fans have more options to watch the very artists they helped propel to the top of the charts,” Jay Penske, chairman and CEO of PMC and CEO of Dick Clark Productions, said in a statement. “By partnering with Fox, Paramount+, and Fire TV Channels, we are able to reach music enthusiasts where they are, whether they’re tuning in on TV, streaming on-demand, or watching from their mobile devices.”
Though no further details have been made available with the show’s livestream worldwide, the BBMAs will celebrate the industry’s greatest achievements, with exclusive performances, artist interviews, and award celebrations taking place from several global locations and amid sold-out tours. While the full list of performers has yet to be revealed, chart-topper Shaboozey is set to deliver a special performance from W Hollywood in Los Angeles, in celebration of his achievement as the longest No. 1 artist on the Billboard Hot 100.
