The six-time Tony Award-winning musical Chicago will officially return to Manila with a run slated for March 2027 at The Theatre at Solaire.

Presented by GMG Productions, in association with theater producers Barry and Fran Weissler and David Ian, the upcoming production will mark over twelve years since the musical’s last local run in 2014, when it debuted at The Theatre at Solaire as the venue’s first-ever musical production.

“There’s something especially meaningful about bringing Chicago back to The Theatre at Solaire, where it inaugurated the venue in 2014.” GMG Productions CEO Carlos Candal shared in a statement. “More than twelve years later, returning to the same stage feels like a real homecoming.”

Featuring music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb (both of whom comprise the songwriting team Kander and Ebb), Chicago is recognized for iconic musical numbers like “All That Jazz,” “Cell Block Tango,” and “Razzle Dazzle” that contribute to the production’s Jazz Age aesthetic.

Set in the Roaring Twenties, the musical tackles the convergence of crime and fame, centering on two murderesses, Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart, who scheme their way to stardom. Accompanying them is the sleezy lawyer, Billy Flynn, aiding and abetting both women.

With its ongoing revival taking the record for the longest-running show currently on Broadway, the musical boasts, alongside its six Tony Awards, a Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Musical Production in 1977 and a GRAMMY Award for Best Musical Theater Album in 1998. In 2002, the musical also had a film adaptation, starring Renée Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones, which won six Academy Awards in 2003.

Announced in another post by Philippine Concerts, the production’s Manila run will take place from March 9 to 28, 2027.

The UnionBank pre-sale opens from October 12 to 15, while the GMG Productions pre-sale opens on October 16. General on-sale will commence on October 19 via TicketWorld.

For now, ticket prices and show dates remain unannounced. Follow GMG Productions for more updates.
