Olivia Rodrigo is ready to break your heart with her newly released single, titled “The Cure.”

The Filipina-American pop star has officially released the highly-anticipated track on digital and streaming platforms, together with an accompanying music video directed by Cat Solen and Jamie Gerin. The cinematic video showcases Rodrigo as a midcentury nurse given the task of saving hearts with various ‘cures’, before eventually being admitted as a patient suffering from the disease she’s meant to cure at the same hospital.

“Oh because my head is full of poison, And my heart is full of doubt, I got toxins in my bloodstream, You tried so hard to suck out, And it feels like medication, And it’s good for meI’m sure, But it don’t matter how your love feels anymore, It’ll never be the cure,” sings Rodrigo throughout the song’s emotional chorus –– which eventually ascends to new heights, following a cathartic bridge.

Rodrigo first made the surprise announcement on her social media platforms, wherein she revealed the track’s official title, single artwork, and its upcoming release date of May 22, 2026. “It’s my favorite song on the album and one of my favorite songs I’ve ever made. [I] couldn’t be more excited for you guys to hear it,” wrote Rodrigo on the caption of the post.

Together with the news of the track’s release, Rodrigo also opened pre-orders for the limited edition vinyl and cassette releases of the single, both of which are exclusively available on her official webstore. The vinyl release is pressed on a 7″ red colored vinyl, and includes a bonus track titled “never do (demo),” which is also available on the cassette format of the single. “The Cure” marks the second single off Rodrigo’s forthcoming third studio album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, which is scheduled to be released on June 12, 2026. The album was first teased with the single, “drop dead,” which received critical and commercial acclaim upon release, and peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Philippines Hot 100 charts. The album is also set to feature another (and still unreleased) track, titled “begged,” which she performed during her recent guesting on Saturday Night Live.

According to Rodrigo in past interviews and press releases, a lot of the tracks on you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love are primarily comprised of “sad love songs” — noting a predominant theme of fear and longing. Inspired by her time in London over the last year, the “driver’s license” hitmaker also mentioned that multiple tracks are based on the relationship of Sex and the City‘s characters, Miranda Hobbes and Steve Brady, even stating to People Magazine; “Like, when Miranda and Steve are getting back together, she’s crying. ‘Steve, anytime something funny happens, I just want to tell you.’ And I remember watching that and being like, ‘Oh, my God, I have to write a song about this.'”

“The Cure” will be placed as the eighth song within the thirteen-track tracklist of you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, and will have a runtime of 4 minutes and 57 seconds, marking the longest track of Olivia Rodrigo’s discography.
