After three long years, Olivia Rodrigo has finally announced her highly anticipated third record, titled you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.
News of the forthcoming album was shared via a surprise post on the Filipina-American pop star’s social media pages, wherein she revealed the record’s title, cover artwork, and release date. “My third album, ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’, is out June 12th. I am so proud of this record, and I can’t wait for you to hear it. available for preorder now!” she wrote on her post.
you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love is set to mark Rodrigo’s third studio album, and will feature production and songwriting from her constant collaborator, Dan Nigro, who also posted the record’s announcement to his social media pages, stating: “Olivia and I made an album…and I’m pretty excited about it!” Nigro worked with the “driver’s license” hitmaker on her previous two records, GUTS and SOUR, as well — with both of them winning the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album for the latter.
Upon GUTS‘ release back in 2023, the album was received with critical acclaim and debuted atop the Billboard 200 at No. 1. It spawned multiple hit singles, including “bad idea right,” “get him back!” and “vampire,” which hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. In Billboard Philippines‘ review of the album, GUTS was described as “a smashing sophomore album that dares to defy previous misconceptions about her talent as one of pop’s brightest acts,” praised for serving as a “a graduation from Sour in all the best of ways” and is “bigger and better in terms of artistry while also showing Rodrigo with a clear and dedicated vision.”
Rodrigo celebrated the album’s release with a very special homecoming concert at the Philippine Arena as part of the world tour in support of the record, and also released her first live album commemorating her headlining set at the Glastonbury Festival in 2025, which featured her joint performance with The Cure’s Robert Smith on tracks like “Friday I’m In Love” and “Just Like Heaven.”
