After a whirlwind year of stellar releases, it’s impossible not to marvel at the sheer diversity and creativity that shaped this year’s music landscape.

From global chart-topping hits to OPM’s hidden gems, this year offered an incredible array of sounds that resonated with audiences all across the world. Several artists pushed boundaries, explored new genres, and told stories that captured the spirit of the times. Whether it was anthems that got us dancing, ballads that made us reflect, or even the experimental tracks that expanded our horizons, this year’s music reminded us why the medium continues to be a universal language.

In this article, the Billboard Philippines team celebrates its picks for the 50 best songs of 2024 in a collection that represents the heart and soul of the year’s music. These tracks were chosen not only for their popularity, but also for their cultural impact, innovative production, and ability to connect with audiences. Whether you’re a casual listener or an avid audiophile, this list promises to take you on a journey through the sounds that defined 2024.

Dilaw” – Maki

One of this year’s defining OPM tracks is undoubtedly Maki’s “Dilaw.”

As a vibrant and joyous examination of young love, the track contains all the right ingredients for a summer earworm that’s bound to stand the test of time. Whether it’s the song’s stellar production by Nhiko Sabiniano, its universally resonant lyricism, or Maki’s distinct vocal performance, there are numerous takeaways for anyone to discover with such a gem of a track such as this.

If anything, it’s arguably the breakthrough moment that shot Maki’s name up to the Philippine mainstream — and has grown his presence across the nation and even with a global audience. While his other colorful follow-up singles are great on their own, there’s no denying that “Dilaw” is going to be the standout track of Maki’s career from 2024 and beyond. — Gab Saulog, Industry News Writer

Please Please Please” – Sabrina Carpenter

There’s no one that can quite outdo themselves like Sabrina Carpenter. As a follow-up to her caffeine-fuelled, disco-pop anthem “Espresso,” the popstar released the comical “Please Please Please,” which sees an unusual blend of country, disco, and pop that oddly works so well. If the track’s performance on the Philippines Hot 100 is any indicator, Carpenter is a wonder at creating tracks that are even funnier and wittier than the last. — Franchesca Basbas, Digital Editor

“Sining” – Dionela, Jay R

Love is a pretty common theme in a lot of Filipino songs. It has been sung about to no end and yet, we never get tired of it.

Much like just how universal love is, there is also a certain sense of widespread relatability in expressing it through song, especially in the most profound ways. Just listen to “sining” by Dionela and Jay R.

Backed by lyricism rich in deep vocabulary, immaculate vocals, and infectious instrumentals, this viral hit between the two R&B singers is a sincere declaration of love to the fullest, easily entrancing listeners with an unmistakable and innate charm. Which is why, to no surprise, it has achieved the distinguished feat of topping both of Billboard Philippines’ music charts this year. — Mayks Go, Writer and Photographer

“Misteryoso” – Cup Of Joe

With “Misteryoso,” Cup of Joe brewed up the ultimate kilig anthem of the year. Alluding to the roundabouts of overthinking when developing attraction towards a special someone, the five-piece group share an experience that is oh-so-familiar. Shadiel Chan, who produced the song, shared in a press statement, “‘Misteryoso’ was made with the intention of fusing classic OPM with modern pop. We also added ear-tickling elements in unexpected parts of the song, mixed with a fairytale-like atmosphere.” There’s no denying the song’s infectiously catchy hook; it pulls you into the daydream of the song. It’s the kind of song that gets stuck in your head — and your heart — blending Cup of Joe’s signature charm. — Rome Saenz, Writer

“kapoy” – UDD feat. ZOYA

If it were difficult for casual listeners to judge UDD’s new material without comparing it to the iconic songs of their Armi Millare-fronted heyday, then the now-trio’s third single “kapoy” could be the best entry point into their current synth-laden sound. Featuring vocals by Visayan singer and producer ZOYA over an insistent disco-funk groove, “kapoy” could very well be the sonic successor to “Sigurado” and the earlier “Turn It Well.” — Jason Caballa, Managing Editor

“Curious” – UNIS

In the world of K-pop, a promising rookie group’s first comeback is always one to look out for, especially if their debut was an undeniably successful or impactful one. It’s almost like a test to see if they’re going to live up to the bar they set for themselves.

Safe to say, with “Curious,” UNIS have achieved exactly that and, dare I say, so much more. In a surprise stylistic shift from their debut — the inspiring “SUPERWOMAN” — UNIS have taken the ever-catchy and reliable route of pop rock with “Curious,” earning themselves a distinguished comeback track that serves as a reminder why they’re one of the fifth generation K-pop girl groups you wouldn’t want to miss out on. — Mayks Go

Ikot” – Over October

If there’s one band that has had their breakthrough moment a long time coming, it would be Over October. Yet this year, they’ve finally found it with the viral success of “Ikot” — a track that could possibly stand out as one of the best releases in their illustrious career. As one of their first singles released as independent musicians, you could easily note the room for creative freedom in which the band was able to explore on the track.

The result itself is a poignant blend of heartfelt lyricism and atmospheric instrumentals, encapsulating the band’s knack for crafting songs that resonate deeply with their listeners, even as it delves into the cyclical struggles of relationships. Through the track’s emotional journey, Over October manages to combine relatability with artistry, making it one of this year’s best love songs. — Gab Saulog

“Sariling Mundo” – TJ Monterde

It took twelve years for singer-songwriter TJ Monterde to release a second full-length album. Was it worth the wait? Absolutely. Especially with a powerful and emotional opener alone like “Sariling Mundo.”

A full-length album often stands as a major peek into a new chapter in an artist’s storied career. It lets listeners experience an entire universe, within a carefully curated collection of songs.

An opening track serves as the gateway into such a universe. With an aptly titled song like “Sariling Mundo,” Monterde enables us to witness his growth as an artist, as a songwriter, and as a person over the years. All the more, it’s effectively him letting us know why he continues to be one of OPM’s mainstays to this day. — Mayks Go

“meet the grahams” – Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar’s high-profile beef with Drake defined the year for hip-hop, there’s no doubt about it. Released almost immediately after Drake put out “Family Matters,” “meet the grahams” nearly extinguished all the flames Drake intended to set. Just as the title suggests, in this single, Kendrick targets each member of the Grahams family, exposing several scathing affairs about the Toronto rapper. Cooking up a simple backing track for this profound diss track, The Alchemist lended a hand in the song’s production. “meet the grahams” is a masterclass in blending thought-provoking content with compelling beats, showcasing why Kendrick remains one of hip-hop’s most powerful voices. — Rome Saenz

“Welcome To The Show” – DAY6

It took a while before DAY6 made their complete return with new music. But following the members carrying out their mandatory military duties, the beloved Korean pop rock band are back, and there could not have been a more fitting track to celebrate this than with “Welcome To The Show.”

Simply put, there is no better way to describe the anthemic single other than serving as a heartfelt love letter to DAY6’s fans who have stuck by them through the years. Whether you’re a longtime listener or a newcomer into the world of DAY6, it’s without a doubt that this song packs an emotional punch, becoming the perfect soundtrack to the band’s long-awaited, triumphant return. — Mayks Go

Die With A Smile – Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars

Put together two vocal powerhouses for a dramatic duet about loving someone until the very end and you have many Filipinos’ new favorite karaoke song. To no one’s surprise, “Die With A Smile” has become an instant hit in the Philippines, even charting atop the Philippines Hot 100 for multiple weeks. But besides having the perfect ingredients for a new beloved karaoke classic, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ passionate vocals and emotional harmonies are enough to leave you dazed and yearning for a love so encompassing. — Franchesca Basbas

“Heavy Is The Crown” – Linkin Park

When Linkin Park announced their return after a seven-year-long wait, anticipation and excitement were rightfully through the roof.

Throughout their nearly three-decade career, the rock/nu metal veterans have consistently proven why they’re one of the most impactful bands in existence. As they enter a new era with new members and new music, this fact still holds true.

“Heavy Is The Crown” stands as proof of this. The heavy-hitting yet melodic single channels the band’s sonic signatures from Hybrid Theory and Meteora whilst utilizing fresh energy that could only come from refined artistic growth. Complete with rap verses and a catchy chorus (as well as outstanding screams) courtesy of new co-lead vocalist Emily Armstrong, this song is Linkin Park at their best, showcasing their consistent evolution over the years. — Mayks Go

Eusexua – FKA Twigs

As the first teaser off her upcoming album of the same name, FKA Twigs’ “Eusexua” marks the perfect re-introduction to the artist and her craft. Given how Twigs has explored various textures, and genres across her previous discography, her latest title track embraces trance-like and techno sounds that feel like a cathartic release for both its listeners and Twigs herself.

It’s dreamy in all the best ways, eliciting a sense of euphoria with every listen, urging listeners to lose themselves on the dance floor to feel what it means to experience “Eusexua.” Because as Twigs herself defined the term, “it’s the sensation of being so euphoric that one could transcend human form.” For sure, we’ll see more of this experience as the album releases early next year. — Gab Saulog

“I’m Wrong” – KRNA

Cagayan De Oro’s finest dream pop proponents continue their streak of fine singles since 2019 with “Dream Again,” the only new record they released this year. Fans of Cocteau Twins, Slowdive, Beach House and the like will find much to love on the track with its ethereal guitars and keys, reverberating beats, and singer KC Salazar’s haunting melodies. Here’s hoping that KRNA release a full-length album in 2025. – Jason Caballa

“II THE MOST WANTED” – Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus

“II MOST WANTED” is a high-octane country anthem by two current dominators in the genre, Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus. Their compelling duet challenges the concept of the quintessentially downbeat and lamblike genre of country/folk. With their gritty and potent vocal combination, the star-studded duo form harmonies that scratch all the right itches in listeners’ ears. The collaboration blends infectious hooks with a punchy yet seemingly minimalist production, creating a vibe that’s both fierce and anthemic. Through “II MOST WANTED,” the pair transform a sweet serenade into a power ballad, establishing itself as a must-listen for fans of boundary-pushing bangers. — Rome Saenz

“Juno” – Sabrina Carpenter

Short n’ Sweet definitely had a hand in painting the pop soundscape this year. Sabrina Carpenter’s unapologetically sensual songwriting shines the brightest in the album’s tenth track, “Juno.” Here, she makes references to the 2008 drama-comedy of the same title, and unabashedly sings her blunt lyricism along to upbeat bubblegum pop. Essentially, it’s the intricacies and details of the female gaze captured into a matter of three minutes. Her performances of the song on the Short n’ Sweet Tour also went viral, as fans were eager to catch whatever “Juno pose” she would imitate for their night. We can’t help but “fall in love” with her every time we catch ourselves queuing this on repeat. — Rome Saenz

“Image” – Magdalena Bay

Hypnotic and ethereal is Magdalena Bay’s “Image” from their latest full-length album, Imaginal Disk. As the duo proclaims their music to be “synth pop straight from the simulation,” Magdalena Bay take their listeners on a nearly intergalactic ride in “Image” with its lush and glimmering production. It’s almost nostalgic, but takes what we perceive to be ’80s synth pop to a whole new level. Their collaborative rendition with Grimes has also earned its flowers, as the fellow alternative/pop artist brings a “brand new image” to the song. — Rome Saenz

Beaches – Beabadoobee

“Beaches” is easily one of Beabadoobee’s best and most triumphant tracks in her discography. There’s a lot to say about the song’s catchy opening riff that’s akin to Weezer’s “Island in the Sun” but the 24-year-old indie phenomenon breaks new ground with a confessional (if contemplative) approach to her diaristic songwriting.

True to the intentions of its lyricism, one could easily note the sense of uncertainty as the song starts, yet as it continues throughout its runtime, there’s a wave of self-assurance and confidence that one could feel within Bea’s vocal delivery. There’s a feel-good sense to the beach-rock elements of the song alone, but none of it would work without Bea and producer Rick Rubin’s special and collaborative touch that makes it a whole lot more meaningful than you’d expect. — Gab Saulog

“BIRDS OF A FEATHER” – Billie Eilish

Hauntingly beautiful and ethereal in sound, Billie Eilish’s “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” is a testament to the Grammy-winning 22-year old’s ability to craft songs that effortlessly tug at anyone’s emotions. Drenched in a dreamy atmosphere, the heartfelt single is a tasteful example of using simple, repeating instrumental patterns to in order for a song’s themes to effectively hit home. Combining this with lyrics detailing the unbridled profession of a person’s deepest love for their significant other, what results is an emotionally vulnerable and catchy track that has deservingly captivated millions of listeners from all over. — Mayks Go

“Sky Is Burning” – spacedog spacecat

Indie supergroup spacedog spacecat may have only released a pair of singles this year, but they do not disappoint. “Sky Is Burning” is the (only slightly) better one of the two, featuring what longtime fans have come to expect from the band and more: an infectious guitar riff-as-hook, dense but never deafening layers of instrumentation and vocal harmonies, and more confident lead singing by co-founder Jam Lorenzo. – Jason Caballa

“SUBOMOTO” – Zae

Billboard Philippines’ very own Pinoy Hip-Hop Class of 2024 graduate, Zae, established her place in rap royalty as a “reyna (queen) in the making” through “SUBOMOTO.” By no means does this track take any steps back from charging into its power — it’s a strong declaration of self-empowerment and identity. In this hard-hitting single, Zae’s self-assured and almost venomous tone meets her distinct, almost sticky-feeling flow. In a previous exclusive interview with Billboard Philippines, Zae proclaimed, “Kapag sinasabi ko sa songs ko na (When I say in my songs that) ‘I’m a boss b*tch,’ it’s because I really am [one.]” — Rome Saenz

Touch – KATSEYE

In what may be one of the catchiest earworms of the year, KATSEYE’s second single “Touch” marked the well-deserved mainstream breakthrough of HYBE and Geffen Records’ latest girl group. From the first chorus alone, it’ll redefine your perception of the word “Touch” due to how insanely catchy it is — and the track is even made better by how well the rest of the flow goes as it goes on (perhaps even inviting listeners for an immediate repeat once the song concludes its runtime).

You see, when assembling a girl group, it’s important to consider what each member can deliver to every track and performance. And with what KATSEYE has done with “Touch,” it shines the spotlight on the strengths of Sophia, Lara, Daniella, Yoonchae, Megan, and Manon have to offer in each of their verses, making it a memorable (and defining) debut for one of pop’s most promising acts out there. — Gab Saulog

Tagpi-Tagping Piraso” – Ely Buendia

Throughout this year, Philippine rock legend Ely Buendia has released a series of spectacular singles preceding the release of his album, Method Adaptor. Yet if there’s one that we had to pick out as the standout, it would surely be “Tagpi-Tagping Piraso.”

Musically, “Tagpi-Tagping Piraso” strikes a balance between raw vulnerability and polished execution. The arrangement is minimalist yet impactful, with subtle flourishes of instrumentation that enhance rather than overwhelm the song’s message. Yet despite being surrounded by dizzying synths, a melancholic guitar riff, and Buendia’s almost distraught crooning, any listener could easily engage in the track’s ability to speak to the fragmented nature of human experience — and the hope of finding wholeness again.

For fans of Buendia’s Eraserheads era, “Tagpi-Tagping Piraso” feels like a mature evolution of his storytelling, combining the lyrical brilliance of his past with a reflective tone that feels distinctly his own. — Gab Saulog

“HOME SWEET HOME” – G-DRAGON, TAEYANG, DAESUNG

Raise your hand if a BIGBANG reunion was on your 2024 bingo — I mean, none of us truly predicted this. Nevertheless, BIGBANG members Daesung, G-Dragon, and Taeyang have returned to their “Home Sweet Home” in the limelight. What we initially assumed their last comeback as a unit to be was their 2022 drop, “Still Life,” where they bid their respective goodbyes to their youth. However, their latest drop “HOME SWEET HOME,” reverts that expectation, with a lush hyperpop production to boot. With lyrics like, “I said I would be back / I’d never let you go,” the second generation K-pop hitmakers have returned to the music scene. — Rome Saenz

Colossal Loss – NIKI

If there’s a song from Buzz that beautifully captures NIKI’s new artistic explorations, it’d be “Colossal Loss.” From the alt-pop guitar riffs to entrancing synths to the impeccable vocals to the riveting storyline, the track is an exciting addition to the Indonesian singer-songwriter’s discography. — Franchesca Basbas

“APT.” – Rosé, Bruno Mars

If there’s a single record that took the web by storm, it would be ROSÉ’s collaboration with Bruno Mars, “APT.” With its incredibly catchy beat and undeniable Internet virality, this single broke into the top spot of the Billboard Philippines Hot 100 in its first week on the chart. Bruno’s upbeat signature pop production brings out a playful side to the BLACKPINK member’s sound. It’s an exhilarating rollercoaster ride of a song, zooming with high energy from start to finish. If this song has haunted your company’s Christmas parties’ with’ dance challenges, then it’s only evidence of the song’s widespread effect. — Rome Saenz

“Palagi” – TJ Monterde, KZ Tandingan

True love speaks to the Filipino audience, and that’s a simple fact. As living proof of this concept, “Palagi” is one of the longest charting Philippine songs since the Billboard Philippines charts’ inception. Its heartfelt messaging and sincere lyricism speaks to the Filipino audience’s natural draw towards romance. KZ Tandingan’s added verse to TJ Monterde’s original rendition also makes for one of the most unforgettable and authentic duets in OPM history. In an official interview with Billboard Philippines, Monterde simply stated, “It’s puso talaga (It’s heart). It’s very straightforward.” Singing of a love that lasts forever, the serenade seems to not leave the country’s soundscape any time soon. — Rome Saenz

“Lalim” – MATÉO

When a person is in a state of being absolutely in love, they tend to get lost in everything that makes up the very individual they hold these strong feelings for. This is exactly what “Lalim” by MATÉO perfectly captures.

The acoustic guitar-driven serenade is a straightforward dedication of love, sung in the perspective of someone who opens up and commits their very being to their significant other. The overall simple yet serene emotional tone of the track’s instrumentals helps its message cut through to the listener, helping turn it into the viral single it has become today. — Mayks Go

“Truth or Dare” – Tyla

Tyla’s debut into the spotlight may have been a rapid one, but, for sure, it’s well-deserved. Bringing Afropop to a bigger stage, the hitmaker spices up the genre with an R&B twist that leaves a strong impression on all her listeners. “Truth or Dare” itself is a fun play on the typical breakup song, inviting those who dare into a flirty game of love and desire. Like many of her songs, the beat is catchy and danceable, making for the perfect anthem to light up the dance floor with. The hit is bold, fun, and unapologetically confident — a track that cements Tyla’s place as a rising star in global pop and R&B. — Rome Saenz

Apple – Charli XCX

While it’s one of the more unserious (if playful) tracks on her magnum opus BRAT, Charli XCX’s “Apple” is easily one of the defining tracks of 2024. Its easy-listening nature consists of soft beats and synth-pop elements, which cleverly disguise a lyrical narrative that delves into themes of intergenerational trauma.

Despite its heavy-handed substance, its rise in popularity has paved the way for a viral dance challenge that’s as infectious as its melody — which has further spread XCX’s influence (and ‘brat’ culture) to the mainstream, as it should be. — Gab Saulog

Sandali – mrld

It would be a lie if I said I wasn’t looking forward to the release of “Sandali.” After hearing snippets of the track all over TikTok, there’s a part of me that longed for the full song for weeks. As someone’s initial knowledge of mrld was her sweet, love-struck track “An Art Gallery Could Never Be As Unique As You,” “Sandali” comes as a pleasant surprise. Against the backdrop of a catchy beat and an assortment of bells and whistles, mrld showcases her ability to take on a new sonic direction, all while maintaining her vivid lyricism. — Franchesca Basbas

Supernova – aespa

aespa have always been ahead of the curve when it comes to K-pop’s trends and evolving soundscapes, which is why it’s no surprise that SM Entertainment’s four-piece group comprised of Karina, Winter, Ningning, and Giselle have released what could be considered the best K-pop track of 2024 with “Supernova.”

It’s not entirely far off from what they’ve done with their earlier string of hit singles, yet it still stands as a clear-cut evolution of their experimental approach to the electronic and techno genres, especially with how bold of a display “Supernova” delivers upon impact. It’s maximalist elements result in a fusion of dance and hyper-pop that’s extremely impressive –– and truly unlike what other K-pop acts even aim to accomplish within the near future. — Gab Saulog

“Tampo” – SUYEN

It’s amazing how Gen-Zers are mostly giving the older generations their fix of sounds that hark back to the grunge and Britpop ‘90s, and 21-year-old SUYEN is among the best of the bunch. Her latest single is the sweetest of the three she has released so far, offering melodies that are equal parts naughty and twee over a bed of jangly guitar strumming that recalls Blur’s best work. – Jason Caballa

We Can’t Be Friends (Wait For Your Love) – Ariana Grande

While Ariana Grande has always been known for making empowering pop anthems, her work in latest album eternal sunshine is arguably the most vulnerable side we’ve seen of her to date. Its standout track, “we can’t be friends (wait for your love),” could easily be noted as the 2020s equivalent of Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own” or Donna Summer’s “Last Dance” — especially with its ‘crying on the dance floor’ nature.

Masked behind intense and bass-heavy beats complemented by swirling string melodies and bold synth elements, Grande opens up about the struggles with the demise of a relationship (which echoes personal and introspective themes), while still making it a stellar showcase for her powerhouse vocals. At its core, it serves as a fantastic display of the pop star’s ability to weave emotional narratives with club-ready bangers in a career-best track. — Gab Saulog

“Medyo Ako” – juan karlos, Moira Dela Torre

If there’s one trait that juan karlos and Moira Dela Torre share as artists, it’s their penchant for a kind of candid storytelling that seamlessly integrates you into the world they’ve created through their songs.

Joining forces, “Medyo Ako” is one such song from the two Filipino singer-songwriters. Backed by their distinguished vocals, the duo have crafted a love-lorn track tackling heartbreak and regret over departure of someone they held dear, almost hopelessly asking them if they have found someone else already. — Mayks Go

“No Control” – Josh Cullen, (e)motional engine

Every aspect of Josh Cullen’s music has been always compelling, attention-grabbing, and serving as a unique, insightful experience into who he is as an artist.

In fact, genre-bending is the name of the game for the SB19 rapper-singer. Shapeshifting between all sorts of sounds, Josh Cullen embraces heavier rock inclinations with “No Control” where he enlists the help of indie rockers (e)motion engine.

Together, they’ve crafted a hard-hitting effort about letting loose and letting go, ultimately resulting in a song that’s a stellar standout in an already stacked collection of catchy tracks that is Josh Cullen’s debut album Lost & Found. — Mayks Go

“places to be” – Fred again.., Anderson. Paak, CHIKA

Fred again.. never disappoints, and this time, he’s shown that he’s “got places to be.” He’s well-known and loved for snipping out samples from all kinds of spaces, taking fragments of speech and piecing them together through song like a puzzle. In this single in particular, he pulled from an unreleased sample from an unexpected duo. The energetic feature involves the vocal contributions of renowned genre-defying singer-songwriter Anderson .Paak and Alabama rapper CHIKA. The track went viral on several social media platforms as they would use it to document high points of their lives. It’s an adrenaline rush of a song with a pulsating rhythm that sends you rocketing from start to finish. — Rome Saenz

Have you ever found yourself crying at the club? “She’s Gone, Dance On” is certainly the song to accomplish that dream with. Through this unexpected record, Disclosure proves their ability in expressing emotionally resonant experiences without sacrificing danceability. As the title suggests, it’s an ode to heartbreak and loss, but moreover, the beauty of moving on after. In short, a butterfly metamorphosis kind of moment. The deep house track has a certain “kick off your shoes and dance” quality to it, brightening the rooms where it’s being played. Disclosure may have debuted in 2010, but they’ve consistently been releasing banger after banger since then. — Rome Saenz

Good Luck, Babe! – Chappell Roan

Chappell Roan has had a very busy year this 2024 — with credit to the breakthrough success of her latest single “Good Luck, Babe!” Her viral success with the track is one of the best ‘star is born’ moments that we’ve seen in recent years, but it’s the song’s stellar production and devastating lyricism that make it stick with millions of listeners.

Beyond Roan’s success as a queer pop icon, “Good Luck, Babe!” has made a significant impact with the general public, proving that great music can find a home with a universal audience. Yet even when looking into it for the track alone, not many other songs can compare to its powerful (and unforgettable) bridge that still stands as cathartic as it is catchy. — Gab Saulog

“Run Your Mouth” – The Marías

Backed by its groovy, trance-inducing instrumentals, The Marías’ “Run Your Mouth” wouldn’t be out of place at your favorite speakeasy or nightclub. Here, the indie-pop quartet offers a distinct blend of synth-heavy elements and punchy beats, topped off by vocalist María Zardoya’s signature whispery vocals. Notably, it juxtaposes this catchy, danceable sound with indignation-fueled lyrics that tackles the state of being conflict avoidant, resulting in a track that is rather haunting, both sonically and thematically. — Mayks Go

Supernatural – NewJeans

NewJeans have had a busy year, to say the least — and yet, amidst all that’s happened, the release of their single “Supernatural” remains as one of their most memorable moments of 2024. The track features a smooth and delectable arrangement that brings together city pop, funk, and new swing jack. It’s signature NewJeans in that it’s unconventional, immensely interesting, and absolutely irresistible. — Franchesca Basbas

Aquamarine” – Addison Rae

With its twinkling synth elements and lush production, Addison Rae’s “Aquamarine” marked the perfect follow-up to “Diet Pepsi.” While not heavily similar to one another, it’s a much welcome display of Rae’s musical range as she explores a more dreamy, ’90s dance pop-oriented sound that borrows aspects from the house and drum & bass subgenres.

At it’s best, it evocative of what Madonna was able to accomplish with her albums Erotica and Ray of Light — though Rae ultimately manages to add her own fresh spin on it. For no matter which musical direction or genres she intends to explore further, “Aquamarine” has further solidified her status as pop’s next it-girl. — Gab Saulog

“Perfume” – The Dare

There’s always something so entertaining as a listener when an artist finds a way to take even the simplest of subjects and turns it into the catchiest of tunes. “Perfume” by The Dare is one such example of a track. Much like the title implies, the song is about perfume. Okay, more specifically, a comically self-absorbed individual who is obsessed with their cheap perfume and its supposed attractive properties. Overall, beyond the rather humorous yet almost unironic tone of its lyrics, what makes “Perfume” stand out is The Dare’s signature bass-heavy brand of electropop and the undeniable swagger in his distinct vocal delivery. — Mayks Go

“Babaero” – gins&melodies, Hev Abi

Hev Abi’s discography has decorated the charts this year with the distinct sound of downtown Quezon City’s rap, and his collaborative piece with gins&melodies is no exception to this. “Babaero” is another one of Hev Abi’s longest-charting songs, alongside “Walang Alam.” The feature takes a modern spin on the 1988 OPM classic of the same title by the legendary Randy Santiago. It’s a song that keeps listeners hooked, blending humor, honesty, and swagger into a track that’s impossible to ignore. As Hev Abi stands as the top streamed Pinoy artists on Spotify this year, “Babaero” is solidified as one of the defining Pinoy hip-hop records of the year. — Rome Saenz

You can’t help but fall in love with AJAA. As one of the few bubblegum pop boy groups in P-pop, the young quartet already stand out — but their charm inherently lies in their cheerful sound that engulf you in a blanket of warmth and positive vibes. Such is the case with their single “BES I LUV U.” The adorable track is a refreshing break from the heavy and dynamic sounds typical of P-pop boy groups, offering a fun and bubbly tune to add to your playlist. Here’s to more songs from AJAA in the new year. — Franchesca Basbas

“Salamin, Salamin” – BINI

Painted with a groovy bassline and strong belts from the members themselves, the track is cemented in their discography as one of their strongest hits yet. Apart from that, it’s undeniably relatable in theme, singing of a yearning for that special someone without knowing how they feel in return. Perhaps as a result of the song’s relatability and addictive melody, the song stood at the top of the Billboard Philippines Top Philippines Songs for many weeks. — Rome Saenz

Juna – Clairo

While the entirety of Clairo’s third record Charm lives up to its name, one of its standout tracks would undoubtedly be “Juna.” The track’s amalgamation of neo-soul, free jazz, and psychedelic pop is a clear evolution of the 26-year-old’s musical sensibilities, showcasing that she’s grown so much from the bedroom and lo-fi pop sound she’s primarily known for.

“Juna” itself is an absolute bop — from Clairo’s soaring vocals on the chorus, her ramblings on emotional intimacy, or even the mouth trumpet that’s simultaneously playful and pitch-perfect as the finishing touch of the track. “CRAZY” – LE SSERAFIM, Pinkpatheress

Pinkpantheress’ joint work with LE SSERAFIM was unexpected, but delivered and ate all the way through. The UK garage singer-songwriter’s soft yet distinct voice seamlessly blends in with the powerful vocals of the girl group. During its release, Pinkpantheress said in an official statement to Source Music, “I’m thrilled to be part of ‘CRAZY,’ a track that everyone can enjoy. It was great to meet Huh Yunjin earlier this year in Korea, and it was an honor to work together on this song. I had a lot of fun joining into this song on a beat that I hope everybody can get loose to.” The catwalk runway anthem turned this collaboration into a worldwide bop, sharing commanding girlhood vibes around the globe. — Rome Saenz
