When HYBE and Geffen Records first teamed up to form KATSEYE, the world was fully tuned in to witness the birth of what promised to be the biggest girl group. Scouting over 120,000 trainees to accept into their The Debut: Dream Academy program, the process was as difficult as it was extensive, but now audiences can witness the full journey of how exactly this multinational girl group came to be in the upcoming documentary series, Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE.
The documentary is set to be produced by HYBE, Interscope Films, and Boardwalk Pictures and will be released this August 21, 2024 –– coinciding with the release of the group’s first extended play, Soft Is Strong (SIS), this August 16, 2024. Check out the full trailer here below:
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Nadia Hallgren (Netflix’s Becoming), the eight-episode series is set to follow the twenty contestants of the program on their year-long journey to train and compete for one of the six slots of the group. Using K-pop methodologies and unprecedented access to the formation process, the result is a compelling portrayal of the highs and challenges of international stardom — one that shows the ascent of Sophia, Lara, Manon, Yoonchae, Daniela, and Megan as they become the very heart and soul of KATSEYE.

Just recently, the group released their second single “Touch,” which spawned a viral TikTok dance challenge that has made waves all over the internet — with the nation’s girl group BINI joining along to the trend with KATSEYE in KCON LA 2024. Their debut single, aptly titled “Debut” was dropped last June 28, 2024, and was produced by prolific producer Ryan Tedder (OneRepublic, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift.)
