Filipino-American singer Olivia Rodrigo has released her latest track “Can’t Catch Me Now” in the lead up to the United States premiere of the The Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes this month.
“Can’t Catch Me Now” is part of the film’s official soundtrack, which also includes a rendition of “Hanging Tree” sung by the film’s leading woman Rachel Zegler, who plays Lucy Gray Baird. “Hanging Tree” was originally performed by Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1.
In an Instagram post announcing the release of the single, Rodrigo revealed that the full soundtrack will be released on the same day of the movie’s premiere.
The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is based on the 2020 novel of the same name, written by The Hunger Games author Jennifer Collins. It will be the fifth film installment in the series, following the original movies and two-part finale. The events of the film take place 64 years prior to the time period of the original trilogy, during the year of the 10th Hunger Games. A young Coriolanus Snow forms a relationship with the District 12 tribute Lucy Gray Baird, a member of the traveling musician troupe, Covey.
The prequel stars Zegler as Baird, Tom Blyth as Coriolanus “Coryo” Snow, Josh Andrés Rivera as Snow’s friend and classmate Sejanus Plinth, Hunter Schafer as Snow’s older cousin and confidante Tigris Snow, Peter Dinklage as the Dean of the Academy and intellectual author of the Hunger Games Casca “Cas” Highbottom, and more.
