Billboard just recently announced the highly anticipated nominations for 2023’s Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs), with Taylor Swift leading the pack with an impressive amount of 20 nominations under her belt, while Morgan Wallen and SZA follow closely behind with 17 nominations each.

This year’s BBMAs are scheduled to happen on November 19 (Saturday), presented by Marriott Bonvoy. Swift, who already achieved the title of becoming the most-awarded female in BBMA history, could potentially surpass Drake as the overall leader –– with the latter boasting 34 BBMAs to his name.

Swift’s impact goes beyond the sheer number of nominations she has, given that this year’s show gives her the chance to break Drake’s record for the most trophies awarded in a single night since 2017’s BBMAs.

The Weeknd treads on their heels with 16 nominations, together with Drake and Zach Bryan who have 14 nominations each. Other notable nominations for this year’s Billboard Awards circuit include 21 Savage, Metro Boomin, and Miley Cyrus who have 9 nominations each, Beyoncé and Rema with seven nominations each, and Bad Bunny and Peso Pluma with six nominations each. Ariana Grande, David Guetta, Eslabon Armado, Karol G, NewJeans, and Selena Gomez also each garnered five nominations this year.

This year’s BBMAs will offer a fresh awards show concept designed to entertain fans with music and exclusive content. The show will feature winner celebrations, behind-the-scenes moments, and performances by some of the biggest artists in the world.

Notably, the BBMAs have joined forces with Spotify’s ‘Fans First’ to bring fans up close and personal with their favorite artists. Performances and award presentations will be accessible through the BBMAs and Billboard social channels, as well as via BBMAs.watch on Sunday, November 19. Billboard Music Awards performers will be unveiled daily on BBMA’s social channels starting Monday, November 6.

Additionally, the 2023 BBMAs introduce nine new award categories, including four in the burgeoning K-pop genre: top global K-pop artist, top K-pop tour, top K-pop album, and top global K-pop song. The red-hot Afrobeats genre also sees new recognition with the top Afrobeats artist and top Afrobeats song awards. This move aligns with a broader trend in music awards shows recognizing African music, following the footsteps of the American Music Awards and MTV Video Awards.

Other new categories include top Hot 100 songwriter and top Hot 100 producer. Swift, her frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff, and Zach Bryan are among the finalists in both of these categories.
