Anna Sawai and Saoirse Ronan are set to play Yoko Ono and Linda McCartney, respectively, in the upcoming quadrilogy of Sam Mendes-directed Beatles biopics, set to be released simultaneously in April 2028.

Sawai, who won an Emmy Award for her lead role in the Hulu historical drama Shōgun as Lady Mariko, will portray Ono, the Japanese multimedia artist who was married to John Lennon until his untimely death in 1980. Ono, now retired, also collaborated with Lennon as part of their duo, the Plastic Ono Band. Harris Dickinson (Triangle of Sadness) will portray the late music icon.

Meanwhile, Ronan, a four-time Academy Award–nominated actress, will portray Paul McCartney’s former wife, who will be played by Academy Award-nominated actor Paul Mescal (Normal People). The two previously worked together in the 2023 film Foe. Linda married Paul in 1969 and continued to collaborate with him as a keyboardist and harmony vocalist in his post-Beatles band, Wings. She passed away from cancer in 1998.

Additionally, Aimee Lou Wood (Sex Education, The White Lotus) will portray Pattie Boyd — the muse and former wife of both George Harrison and Eric Clapton, who inspired several of their iconic love songs. Harrison will be played by Joseph Quinn, known for Netflix’s Stranger Things and The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

While Mia McKenna-Bruce will take on the role of Maureen Starkey, a hairdresser best known as Ringo Starr’s first wife. Starr will be portrayed by Barry Keoghan, who starred in films like Saltburn and The Killing of a Sacred Deer.

In April, Sony Pictures officially announced the lead cast with the four films centering on each Beatle, telling each member’s point of view. This is the first fictional Beatles project to be granted full life story and music rights by the families of the late Lennon and Harrison.
