Michael Giacchino has just given us our first glimpse at his score for Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

The Academy-Award-winning composer’s work on the upcoming superhero film was showcased in the latter’s first trailer, which introduces a new set of faces as the titular group. Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, The Last of Us, Game of Thrones), Vanessa Kirby (The Crown, Mission Impossible: Fallout), Ebon Moss Bacharach (The Bear), and Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things, A Quiet Place: Day One) star in the 60s-inspired blockbuster, showcasing Marvel’s first family embracing a retro-futuristic approach as they navigate their newfound superpowers, as well as the looming threat of Galactus and The Silver Surfer.

Giacchino’s score echoes what he’s done for Pixar’s The Incredibles, with an emphasis on the elements of soaring brass horns that allow the main theme to evoke a playful nature that is still heroic and larger than life. It’s a stark contrast from what he accomplished on his most recent superhero score for DC and Matt Reeves’ The Batman, which focused on the more broody aspects that perfectly fit the noir elements of the critically acclaimed film.

Just recently, Giacchino also composed the compositions for the movie IF and Netflix’s survival drama Society of the Snow, the latter of which was shortlisted at the 96th Academy Awards but unfortunately failed to garner a nomination, However, Giacchino was awarded Best Original Score in 2009 for Pixar’s Up, and also won three Grammy Awards for his work on the latter (including a solo nod for Up‘s iconic theme “Married Life”) and the score to Ratatouille.

Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps is scheduled for release worldwide this July 2025, with Giacchino’s score expected to hit streaming and digital platforms on the film’s day of release.
