Regine Velasquez-Alcasid is a woman that needs no introduction. She is the Philippines’ top-selling artist, a performer whose artistry impresses time and time again, a singer whose is loved and admired by so many. She is a powerhouse, in every sense of the word.

On March 22, Velasquez-Alcasid accepted the first-ever Powerhouse Award at the Billboard Philippines Women In Music, an award meant for artists who continuously rattle and shock the industry. With a career spanning decades, there’s no denying that Asia’s Songbird is still at the top of her game.

During her acceptance speech, Velasquez-Alcasid pondered about her time in the industry. “Parati pag may nagtatanong kung anong legacy iiwanan ko sa industriya na to, feeling ko wala,” she laughs. “Sa akin po kasi, hindi masyadong importante kung meron akong maiwan or wala. I know makakalimutan ako, kasi ganon yun,” she says.

Pero para po sakin, ang aking legacy ay ang aking anak because people will forget about me, will forget about my voice, will forget what I’ve done in the industry but my son will always remember me. So, my son is my legacy.”
