Whether it’s music for the tennis court or the club, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (of Nine Inch Nails) know just what to play for you –– as exemplified by their latest musical score to Luca Guadagnino and Zendaya’s upcoming film, Challengers.
The Academy-Award and Golden Globe-winning composers just dropped Challengers [MIXED] by Boyz Noise, which features the duo’s electronic score to the highly-anticipated flick remixed and reworked into one seamless club set. The end result is akin to a sonic match made in heaven, featuring a stellar mix of pulsating beats, twinkling synth sounds, and the not-so-subtle echoes of racquets bouncing off tennis balls. In its own way, the series of compositions weave across dreamy soundscapes that feel like a lucid dream, to raving anthems that fit right at home with the nightlife of any city’s active club scene.
Clocking in just below thirty minutes, the nine tracks released give a much-welcome preview into the world that both Guadagnino and Zendaya bring life to this compelling sports drama — capturing both the intensity of the sport and the sensuality of the film’s premise.
Aside from their work as industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails, Reznor and Ross are recognized for their compositions to David Fincher’s The Social Network, Gone Girl, and The Girl With Dragon Tattoo, as well as Pixar’s original movie Soul which they co-scored alongside Jon Batiste. Just recently, the duo also co-produced Halsey’s conceptual album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, which released last 2021.
Challengers will be released by Warner Bros. Pictures worldwide, and premieres in the Philippines this April 24, 2024 exclusively in Ayala Malls Cinemas nationwide.
