Tanaw Collective have released their first single together.
On January 31, 2025 (Friday), the newly formed OPM supergroup — composed of Filipina rock legends Acel Bisa, Aia de Leon, Barbie Almalbis, Hannah Romawac, Kitchie Nadal, and Lougee Basabas — released their first single as unit, a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s 1975 classic “Landslide.”
Described as “a poignant and minimalist cover” of the hit track, “Landslide” is said to represent the group’s “shared sentiment of letting go and embracing new beginnings both in careers and personal lives,” conveying “a collective journey of maturity, acceptance, and spiritual growth, marking another chapter in their musical evolution.” It was mixed and mastered by Angee Rozul and distributed via House of Tunes.
“’Landslide’ is a song that we all know and love,” states Barbie Almalbis in a press statement, sharing how each of them has “covered it at some point.” “The first version I actually heard was the Smashing Pumpkins cover,” she further shares. “I was in high school, and I immediately connected with it. The song’s themes of life, love, and the shifting seasons have only deepened in meaning for us as we’ve all grown older together.”
According to Aia de Leon, it was actually Hannah Romawac’s idea to record the song together, sharing, “This seems to have launched the habit of us recording songs after we have jammed. I can’t stress enough how awesome it truly is to be able to have all these tools and technology available to artists nowadays.” She reveals that the cover was recorded in different places — Almalbis’ home studio “became the hub for Acel, Lougee, and Hannah,” Nadal recorded her vocals from her home in Spain, while de Leon herself her vocal tracks “from home on the south side.”
“Recording with the girls is always such a fun experience — 50% work and 50% catching up,” adds Almalbis, stating, “It’s a blessing to do something we love with people we love.”
The release of “Landslide” notably precedes the long-awaited repeat of the six-piece’s TANAW concert, set to happen this February 9, 2025 (Sunday) at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Pasay City. The concert is described as a celebration of “the enduring bond between the iconic artists and their devoted fans, offering new interpretations of their beloved original songs and enhanced by a symphonic backing from The Manila String Machine on select tracks.” The show is completely sold out.
