Filipino Band Sentient Void Wins Fan Prize At Wacken Metal Battle

Filipino metal band Sentient Void were announced as winners of the Fan Award in an international metal music competition.

Beginning in 2004, Wacken Metal Battle has since gained the reputation of being one of the world’s biggest international metal competitions. The project initially started as a national music competition in Germany before developing into a global event connecting the worldwide metal music community, supporting the underground metal scene and bringing emerging bands into the fray. Since its inception, the competition has managed to connect to over 100 countries and invite over thousands of bands around the world.

This year, the competition introduced for the first time its Online Fan Vote Award, which was awarded to Sentient Void. “To everyone around the world who voted, shared, and rallied behind their favorite bands,” Wacken Metal Battle wrote in the caption of a post congratulating the band. “Thank you for making history with the first-ever online fan voting platform in Wacken Metal Battle history,” it continued. Accompanying the award was a cash prize of €2,500 given to the Filipino band.

A six-piece metal band, Sentient Void began in 2022 in Iloilo City. In 2024, the band released their debut EP Aberrant, which featured their singles “Voidwalker” and “The Freak Show.”

Celebrating their win, the band posted a photo of themselves raising the Philippine flag on the stage in Germany with the caption “This victory belongs to all of you! This victory belongs to the Philippines!! This victory belongs to Iloilo!!”
