Rex Orange County has just dropped his fifth studio album, The Alexander Technique.
Named after a therapeutic method for treating chronic pain, The Alexander Technique reflects Rex’s most intimate and honest work to date. By paring down his sound to a raw blend of R&B and indie folk while keeping his signature lush orchestration, Rex embarks on a new chapter of his career. The Alexander Technique is produced by O’Connor himself, alongside collaborators like Teo Halm (Rosalía, SZA, Omar Apollo, and Beyoncé), Jim Reed, and James Blake, who co-produced and is featured on the track “Look Me In The Eyes.”
The Alexander Technique is very much a look into my own brain and experiences over the last few years – it’s almost a diary,” the English musician reveals in an official press statement. Longer and more musically varied than any of his previous work, it marks a stark contrast from his previous albums, which include 2022’s WHO CARES?, 2019’s Pony, and 2017’s Apricot Princess.
“I’ve made a lot of love songs over the years, and I feel as though this is the first time I’m trying to make a project about everything in life. In my mind, it’s exactly what I’ve always wanted to make,” he concludes.
To celebrate the release, O’Connor is set to embark on headline tours across North America and the UK — with avid fans of the musician expecting a theatrical stage show designed to bring the album to life in some of the most popular venues worldwide. Just last year, O’Connor made his highly anticipated debut live performance in the Philippines at the Araneta Coliseum, during which he performed alongside Filipino-Australian musician Grent Perez to the delight of his Filipino fans in attendance.
Billboard Philippines described the show as a “joyous and unforgettable night” wherein the certified hitmaker “made Manila his ‘Best Friend’ for one night.” During the course of the show, O’Connor even called it the “best show he’s ever had.”
