Pedicab have released their first new track in six years.

The single, titled “Balyena” (Whale), follows their 2017 alien opera-themed concept album Remuda Triangle. According to the band’s Instagram post, the song “incorporates dense guitar riffs, dirty yet funky synths, stoner disco drums, and an infectious chorus.” The song contains offbeat Tagalog lyrics “about traveling the multiverse,” written by singer Diego Mapa. They have been known for sparse releases since their formation in 2004. Prior to Remuda Triangle, they also released the Kaya Mo Mag-Sando? (Can You Wear A Sando?) EP in 2012, and Shinji Ilabas Mo Ang Helicopter (Shinji, Bring Out The Helicopter) in 2008.

Recently, the band celebrated the 18th anniversary of their 2005 debut, Tugish Takish. They released a limited edition pink vinyl with remastered versions of the songs. Additionally, they held a vinyl launch and anniversary gig at Good Vibrations Records at Cubao Expo last August 18. Joining them on the lineup were alternative rock bands Taken By Cars and Jetcoaster. The show also featured vinyl DJ sets by Dayglo (Diego Castillo of Sandwich), Vinylboy1994, Ruffdemo, and Amadeus.

Pedicab are composed of Diego Mapa on vocals, guitar, and synth, Jason Caballa on guitar, Raymund Marasigan on bass synth, Mike Dizon on drums, and RA Rivera on synth, noise, and sound effects. They are best known for their songs “Simulan Mo Na” (Start It), “Ang Pusa Mo” (Your Cat), and “Dito Tayo Sa Dilim” (Join Me In The Dark).
