Local dream pop/shoegaze outfit Megumi Acorda are touring Japan in September.

The band announced through their official website that they will play a total of four shows in Japan — one in Nagoya, one in Hamamatsu, and two in Tokyo — to celebrate the release of their acclaimed full-length album Silver Fairy in the country. The band’s Japanese label, Fastcut Records, likewise announced the tour on its social media accounts. The band will be joined by Japanese acts MoritaSaki in the pool, softsurf, downt, April Blue, and others, with different acts supporting each show.

“We were first contacted by Fastcut about the tour early last year and we were planning to tour after (Singaporean band) Sobs (who also toured Japan in 2023), maybe late 2023 or early 2024,” shares singer and guitarist Megumi Acorda. “But life happened for both Fastcut and the band so personally I thought we would tour Japan by 2025. Fortunately, Naoki from Fastcut was able to ask around and book some venues, so the band decided that it would be best if we toured in September.”

While this isn’t the first time Megumi Acorda will be playing abroad (they performed in Singapore’s Rocking The Region festival in both 2022 and 2024), it will be the band’s first multi-city tour in a foreign country. “I’ve been playing for more than two decades but I’ve never done anything like this,” says drummer Jerros Dolino. “So, suffice it to say, I’m considering this a personal milestone.”

“It’ll be my first time in Japan,” adds guitarist Evee Simon. “While it will be busy and tiring, I look forward to the food, the sights, and learning more about the music scene there, all with friends.”

On a more personal level, the tour is particularly significant to Acorda (who was born in Japan) and guitarist Kevin Ingco (who has familial roots there). “I’ve been wanting to go back to Japan and this tour is special to me as a songwriter because I get to bring my closest friends for free because of our songs,” concludes the singer. “I get to have fun playing with them too!”
