Maki has released the music video for his latest single “Bughaw.” Released today, March 13, 2025 (Thursday), it notably stars the chart-topping singer-songwriter alongside HORI7ON‘s Kyler, as well as comedian-singer Zeke Abella and SBTown soloist Alexei Claire. Co-created by Lunchbox, the music video notably sees the four wearing school uniforms, experiencing blue hour bliss and exploring different locations across a coastal town.
The music video’s release was first revealed last March 6, alongside the announcement of a special launch party, dubbed ‘Bughaw Hour.’ The event was held on March 12 (Wednesday) at Matrix Creation Events in Quezon City. Alongside an early screening of the music video, the show also involved performances from Maki, as well as his Tarsier Records labelmate Angela Ken, his brother Haro from P-pop boy group PLUUS, and singer Dani Zam.
During a Q&A portion of the event, Maki discussed his experience helping create the music video, with this being his directorial debut. “Kung hindi ‘man ako naging artist, magiging director ako (If I didn’t become an artist, I would’ve become a director),” the “Dilaw” hitmaker shared. “It was a big challenge for me but it’s something na I really wanna do for a long time.” Alongside this, he also emphasizes how much he always wants to support the Philippine art community, which is why his music videos are very art-driven. “Visual art is my first love so gusto ko laging na-i-incorporate ‘yun (I always want to be able to incorporate that).”
When asked by a fan what else he wants to pursue creating as a director, Maki notes that, while he has no foreseeable plans yet, it will be a “happy venture” for him to be able to make his own short animated film.
“Bughaw” was released by Maki last December 1, 2024, serving as the follow-up to his other color-related singles “Namumula” and “Dilaw.” Ahead of performing the nostalgia-induced track at the music video launch, Maki described it as his most favorite song that he’s written so far because it talks about memories that last — something that he has held dear since he was a kid.
In other news, Maki has also announced the release of his debut album, Kolorcoaster, which is set to come out soon. Meanwhile, he is also set to go on two overseas tours later this year: first, in the United States with Silent Sanctuary and second, with James Reid in Canada.
