Grammy-winning jazz-pop musician Laufey has just released a short film for her latest single “Goddess”, directed by Academy Award-nominated director Celine Song (Past Lives) and co-starring Will Gao (Netflix’s Heartstopper and Wasia Project).
The music video was shot in Brooklyn on the 35mm film format, with Laufey describing the creative process as quite the “seamless partnership”. It was so special to work with Celine on the ‘Goddess’ short film. She has such a clear vision with her work, which became immediately evident to me while watching Past Lives, and her ideas around ‘Goddess’ harmonized perfectly with the narrative of the song. There was immediately a shared understanding that made the partnership so seamless and I feel so lucky to collaborate with someone whose work I admire so much.”
“Goddess” marks the lead single off of the forthcoming deluxe edition of her 2023 album Bewitched, with Bewitched: The Goddess Edition scheduled for release this April 26, 2024. The expanded edition will feature four brand-new tracks that the Icelandic-Chinese artist penned following the release of her sophomore album, with “Bored”, “Trouble”, and “It Could Happen To You” being the latest additions to the critically acclaimed record.
Aside from her ongoing leg of the “Bewitched: The Goddess Tour” in North America, Laufey is scheduled to visit the Philippines for her two-night performance of ‘A Night At The Symphony’ with the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra, Pasay City. Both shows are scheduled to take place May 28 and 29 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in Pasay City. Tickets for the show are already sold out, following the likes of her previous visit to the Philippines last May 30, 2023, at the Filinvest Tent in Muntinlupa.
2023 marked a standout year for Laufey, with Bewitched earning the biggest debut for any jazz album in Spotify’s history, also charting at #23 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album’s lead single marked a smash hit for the singer, with “From The Start” earning a Platinum certification from the RIAA, in addition to her monumental win for ‘Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album’ in the 2024 Grammy Awards.
