Chart-topping artist Juan Karlos just released his latest musical single, “Pag-ibig Na Sumpa,” which serves as the haunting theme song to the highly anticipated Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2023 entry, “Mallari.”
Making a fusion out of the “ERE” hitmaker’s emotive vocals and the atmospheric instrumentals that set the tone of the film, “Pag-ibig na Sumpa” utilizes Juan Karlos’s signature style, elevating the auditory experience to heights that aim to thrill and unnerve his listeners in all the right ways — which is quite the far cry from the heartbreak anthems he’s become recognized for over the years.
Composed by Quest and arranged by Xergio Ramos with Emil Dela Rosa, the track was first unveiled to fans at UMG Philippines’ Fanverse event held last weekend at the popular amusement park, Enchanted Kingdom. The theme song perfectly encapsulates the essence of “Mallari,” a film that delves into the haunting narrative of Fr. Severino Mallari, a 19th-century priest who’s been recognized throughout history as the Philippines’ inaugural serial killer.
While “Pag-ibig Na Sumpa” stands as the latest musical release of Juan Karlos, the chart-topper just released his first-ever holiday single “Maligayang Pasko” last November and has recently teased an upcoming world tour and major concert that are set to occur over the upcoming months of 2024. Fans eager to see Juan Karlos live can expect to see him at the forthcoming Bobapalooza Music and Arts Festival, which is slated to take place on February 24 and 25, 2024 at the Filinvest City Event Grounds.
