Continuing Warner Music Philippines‘ celebration of thirty years in the industry, the latest addition to their Classic Covers series is Jason Dhakal, performing a cover of Sitti’s “Para Sa Akin.” Having teased the cover on his social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, Dhakal finally released the track earlier today (October 27) on all streaming and digital platforms.
Sitti‘s “Para Sa Akin” was released in 2006 as a part of her double-platinum full-length, Cafe Bossa, and the track became the biggest hit of her career with more than forty-two million streams and counting to this day. Compared to the Filipino-flavored bossa nova style of the original song, Dhakal’s take on Sitti’s hit delivers a more soulful rendition of the track, with a slower pace to evoke a more sensual nature that stays true to the nature of his own sound.
Fresh off the release of his second studio album BEING last month, Dhakal follows fellow labelmates Arthur Miguel, Jikamarie, and more in this ongoing series of classic covers to honor the label’s thirty-year mark in the Philippine music scene. Miguel released a cover of Rico Blanco‘s “Your Universe” last October 11th, while Jikamarie’s take on Kitchie Nadal’s “Bulong” was released on October 25.
