Dua Lipa, who recently amazed fans with her psychedelic disco track “Houdini,” is back in the spotlight, revealing another pop anthem with her forthcoming release “Training Season.”

The British pop star announced the news via TikTok, wherein Lipa effortlessly lip-syncs to a preview of the track, whose lyrics express a weariness of lackluster relationships. With lyrics like “I need someone to hold me close, deeper than I’ve ever known,” set to a pulsating beat, Lipa brings her signature style of making dance-worthy heartbreak anthems back to the forefront.

In an official statement, the singer revealed that the inspiration behind the upcoming song stemmed from a string of disappointing dates, with the final one being the tipping point. Lipa mentioned the lighthearted studio moment where she declared, “TRAINING SEASON IS OVER,” turning the post-date debrief into creative inspiration alongside collaborators Caroline Ailin and Tobias Jesso Jr.

Beyond its romantic undertones, Lipa also emphasized that “Training Season” extends far beyond her personal love life. Explaining that it captures the universal sentiment of being fed up with instructing others, especially men, on navigating relationships, she added that the song also represents personal growth and empowerment.

The announcement comes amid a triumphant week for the British pop star, as she secured three nominations for the 2024 Brit Awards on January 24, spanning categories like Artist of the Year, Pop Act, and Song of the Year for Barbie’s “Dance The Night”. Later this February, Lipa is also set to perform at the 2024 Grammy Awards, where she, alongside Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo, stand as the first wave of performers for the prestigious awards show in addition to each of their multiple nominations for the night.

“Training Season” is currently slated for release this February 15, 2024 (Thursday), and marks the second release of her third, still unnamed, studio album that is due this 2024.
