Following the reveal of its first wave of performers, this year’s AXEAN Festival is set to dazzle once again with its fully unveiled lineup for 2024.
Having cemented its status in the global festival circuit, AXEAN Festival continues to impress with a diverse lineup that spans Southeast Asia and beyond — including several local names like Maki, Munimuni, crwn, Eco of bird., and the newly announced Mix Fenix.
This year’s lineup also gets an exciting boost with a slew of high-profile Indonesian artists. Adding to the already impressive roster are The Jansen, a lo-fi indie punk duo celebrated for their poetic yet raw sound; The Panturas, a surf rock sensation since 2016; and Navicula, a rock powerhouse hailing from Bali.
“The reason why we wanted to invite them, and also other popular local artists wherever we host our event, is because these talented artists may be big in their home markets but could be unknown to the rest of the world,” explains AXEAN Festival co-founder and team leader Piyapong Muenprasertdee. “We believe that local talents can reach an international audience if they are put in front of the people who can bring them to the global market. And having local heroes spearhead this attempt, other smaller local artists can have the courage and confidence to follow suit, resulting in more attention from the world to our region’s music, pushing for that tipping point to put Southeast Asia on the global music map.”
Also joining the festival are Assia Keva, Rafi Sudirman, Skandal, and Spella Ruby from Indonesia; Golden Mammoth, Lust, and Zee Avi & The Good Things from Malaysia; BLACKARMATUS x DJ XULALIT from Thailand; and Dattie Do from Vietnam.
Taking place at Jimbaran Hub in Bali, Indonesia on September 28 and 29, 2024, the AXEAN Festival promises a cross-border celebration where music, culture, and arts converge. With over 40 emerging and established acts, the festival will also feature industry mixers and networking activities. This year, AXEAN introduces a private songwriting camp aimed at fostering creativity and cross-cultural collaboration among top songwriters, producers, and artists from the ASEAN region and beyond.
At last year’s showcase, Philippine acts such as Ena Mori, Clara Benin, and Oh, Flamingo! performed at the 2023 iteration of the festival, which took place in Singapore. Also part were The Itchyworms, LONER, and Madd Mark, among several other musical acts who represented the very best that Southeast Asian music has to offer.
