Ariana Grande offers a glimpse into her upcoming studio album, petal, with a pre-release single titled “hate that i made you love me,” which dropped on May 29, 2026.

Welcoming a new era, the Grammy Award-winning artist gets vulnerable on the contemporary R&B breakup track, with lyrics like, “Just know that I will find my way from you / Like flowers from a tomb while you decide who you are,” reflecting the album’s flower-inspired concept.

Leaning further into emotional honesty, Grande sings, “Hate that I made you love me / Sorry if I made me your type / I hate that I made you love me / ‘Cause I barely tried.” With its raw, introspective lyrics, she previously described the track as “one of [her] favorite songs [she’ll] ever write.”

The single arrives ahead of petal, which was first announced on April 28 alongside its black-and-white cover art and video teaser. Co-produced and co-written with eternal sunshine collaborator Ilya, the album will be released through BabyDoll Music, Grande’s personal record label under Republic Records.

Teasing its accompanying music video, Grande recently shared an eerie clip on social media featuring Weapons actor Justin Long anxiously peering into a rearview mirror, only for the singer-songwriter to appear seated in the back seat. The horror-inspired music video is scheduled to premiere on June 2, 2026 at 12 AM PHT.

Grande is also set to embark on her Eternal Sunshine tour beginning this June, marking her first tour since 2019. After spending the last few years focused on acting, she notably earned a Best Supporting Actress nomination at the Academy Awards for her role in the award-winning film Wicked.

Serving as her return to music, petal is now available for pre-save ahead of its July 31 release.
