VXON are always changing the game.
Combining their P-Pop roots with cultural beats of Kalye Hip-Hop, the group hones into their significantly vibrant, Filipino style. Composed of members C13, Sam, Franz, Vince, and Patrick, the group debuted in 2022 under Cornerstone Entertainment with the single “The Beast”. Dubbed as the “Monsters of P-Pop”, the group has been tearing up the local music scene with their distinct and powerful sound.
Get ready to experience their dynamic sound live on stage this October at Billboard Philippines: Mainstage, Billboard Philippines‘ grand one year anniversary celebration. Alongside some of the biggest names in Filipino music, VXON are ready to tear up the stage for a performance you won’t forget.
As the highly anticipated event draws near, we sat down with VXON to talk about what makes P-Pop a significant movement and their creative practices, as well as find out what they have in store of their upcoming performance at Billboard Philippines: Mainstage.
Billboard Philippines: Who are some Filipino artists you think people need to pay more attention to and why?
We aspire for more people to explore and appreciate the diverse world of P-pop. This genre offers a wide variety of music, fashion, top-tier performances and unique personalities that truly reflect the rich Filipino culture. We believe that by sharing and celebrating these elements, we can bring our distinct artistic expressions to larger, international stages. P-pop is not just about music—it’s a dynamic cultural movement that resonates with audiences in different ways. From its captivating sound, to its expression of art through performances to its vibrant style statements, P-pop is an embodiment of the Filipino spirit and culture.
Moreover, the genre has already produced chart-topping artists such as SB19, BINI, ALAMAT, and the likes of Maki, Hev Abi, Dionela, and many others, who continue to shape and redefine the local music landscape. These artists are not only elevating OPM and P-pop but also showcasing the immense talent and creativity of the Filipino people. We hope that through their success, more individuals will be inspired to explore and appreciate the richness of P-pop, ultimately contributing to its growth and recognition on a global scale.
What’s a Filipino album or song you keep going back to? What value and significance does it hold to you?
Songs such as “Lagi” by Skusta Clee, “Biyahe” by JROA, “Gento” by SB19, and “Huwag Muna Tayong Umuwi” by BINI are just a few of the many tracks we have revisited this year. These songs not only serve as a source of inspiration for our artistic endeavors but also resonate with us on a deeply personal level. We find great joy in listening to these works, as they allow us to connect emotionally, while also embracing the theme of vulnerability that is so central to our creative process.
One album that holds particular significance for us is 20:20, our debut release from this year. This project has been instrumental in solidifying our sound and identity as artists. Through this album, we have been able to share our personal experiences and stories, creating a body of work that reflects both our individual journeys and our collective artistic vision. *20:20* stands as a proud achievement, embodying the essence of who we are as musicians while allowing us to connect more deeply with our audience.
What do you love most about being an artist?
Being an artist provides a unique platform to express aspects of life experiences. Through the medium of music and performance, artists have the freedom to express complex emotions, ideas, and perspectives that allow them to be known. This artistic expression allows for a deeper, more authentic connection with audiences, transcending the boundaries of ordinary communication.
Furthermore, being an artist offers the privilege and responsibility of inspiring others. With this platform, artists have the ability to influence, uplift, and motivate people by sharing their personal journeys, stories, and creative visions. Art, in all its forms, has the power to resonate deeply with individuals, fostering a sense of connection and inspiring positive change. It is through this creative expression that artists can not only showcase their talent but also touch lives, provoke thought, and spark inspiration in ways that extend far beyond the stage.
In line with Billboard Philippines celebrating their first year, what has been your favorite moment of the last year?
This year has been an incredibly rewarding and transformative period for both us and the entire P-pop industry. We take great pride in celebrating the numerous milestones that have been achieved alongside our fellow P-pop groups, all of whom continue to work tirelessly to elevate the genre and showcase its rich potential. As members of VXON, we are deeply grateful and humbled to be part of this ongoing movement, contributing to the growth and recognition of P- pop on a broader scale.
One of the most significant highlights of this year for us was our participation in the Cornerstone All Star Concert Tour in the USA, where we had the honor of representing P-pop on an international stage. Witnessing Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and foreign audiences enjoying and embracing P-pop was a truly inspiring experience. It reinforced our belief in the universal appeal of the genre and strengthened our resolve to introduce P-pop to even wider audiences across the globe. The enthusiasm and positive reception we encountered abroad reaffirmed our passion and dedication to further promoting P-pop, making us proud to be part of this cultural movement.
In addition to this, a major milestone for us this year was the release of our debut album, 20:20. This project stands as a reflection of our artistic identity, sound, and the hard work we have invested in our craft. We are thrilled that more people are now able to experience our music and connect with the stories we have shared through this album. It has been a fulfilling journey, and we are eager to continue pushing our creative boundaries, offering even more of our artistic expressions in the future.
Lastly, we are honored to have been chosen as one of the interpreters for the song “MHWG” as part of Philpop Himig Handog 2024. This opportunity allows us to further represent and promote P-pop to a wider audience, and we are humbled to be included in such a prestigious lineup alongside many of the artists and idols we have long admired. Being part of this event is not only a significant career milestone for us but also a testament to our commitment to advancing the P-pop genre. We look forward to continuing our journey as we strive to make a lasting impact in the music industry.
Finally, what can your fans expect from your performance at Billboard Philippines: Mainstage?
Our album, 20:20, serves as a reflection of the duality between vulnerability and strength, themes that we seek to embody in our performances. It is our aspiration to convey these emotions with authenticity, while incorporating unexpected elements and creative twists that will captivate our audience. Each performance is designed not only to highlight our resilience and power but also to affirm and solidify our artistic identity.
Our supporters can anticipate that we will channel an intense, fierce energy — unleashing the “monster” within us — while simultaneously embracing our vulnerabilities. This balance allows us to create a performance experience that is both powerful and relatable, fostering a deeper emotional connection with our audience. We believe that by revealing both strength and vulnerability, we invite our listeners to resonate with the emotions we express on a personal level.
In addition to delivering emotionally impactful performances, we are committed to ensuring that our music is both engaging and entertaining. Alongside our fellow P-pop artists, we aim to contribute to the continued growth and recognition of the genre, while providing our audience with an unforgettable experience that unites artistry, emotion, and entertainment.
