Since its launch in July of last year, Billboard Philippines’ weekly charts have stood out as the Philippines’ musical authority on highlighting which musical releases dominate over Filipino listeners nationwide.
Every week, fans and listeners remain tuned in to bear witness to who will be the next set of chart-toppers, whether it be an abundance of international acts across various genres, to a plethora of local musicians who are becoming mainstays in Philippine pop culture as they elevate OPM to new global heights. With the multitude of prominent musical releases dropped last week, there’s a strong possibility that several new names and entries could break into the Billboard Philippines charts.
Global K-pop icon LISA dropped her highly-anticipated debut album, ALTER EGO –– whose quartet of pre-released singles all debuted immediately on the Philippines Hot 100 upon their first week of chart tracking. The record’s variety of genres and collaborations has garnered a lot of traction across several online spaces upon the album’s full release, even inspiring a new dance challenge with its key track, “FXCK UP THE WORLD”, featuring renowned rapper Future.
However, LISA isn’t the only K-pop release with a strong possibility of dominating the Billboard Philippines’ charts –– as G-DRAGON dropped his first full-length album in a full decade with Übermensch. The King of K-pop’s major comeback in the realm of music has taken the world by storm, especially with its impressive set of collaborations that include fellow BIG BANG members TAEYANG, DAESUNG, and even Anderson Paak. The album’s singles of “POWER”, “TOO BAD”, and “DRAMA” have demonstrated impressive performances across various streaming and digital platforms worldwide, which opens up the likelihood of seeing its presence on the Philippine charts next week.
On the local music front, the Nation’s very own girl group BINI have dropped their latest extended-play, BINIVerse –– which also marks their first-ever all-English record. The earlier singles off the record, “Cherry On Top” and “Blink Twice”, made impressive debuts within the Top 10 of the Philippines Hot 100 upon their release, with both tracks even staying present within the top of the charts even in the weeks after each track’s release. The newly released songs “Zero Pressure”, “Secrets” featuring eaJ, and “Out Of My Head” were met with positive reception from Blooms nationwide –– which paves the way for each of these tracks to debut within the Philippine charts next week.
However, what is arguably one of the biggest releases over the past week would be SB19’s single “DAM.” As the first glimpse of what lies ahead off their upcoming ‘Simula At Wakas’ era and upcoming record, this empowering anthem and its cinematic visualizer have taken the Philippines and their fanbase of A’TINs by storm –– leading to impressive performances across various streaming and digital platforms here in the country. With its record-breaking feat as the second most viewed music video in twenty-four hours in OPM history, it would very much be a welcome surprise to see SB19 make history once more with “DAM” as their first chart-breaking release in the Billboard Philippines’ charts next week for the first time.
