We love to curate music for a lot of different events and activities – parties, social gatherings, a long drive, hanging out at the coffee shop, and more. But just as important is the music we put on while we get ready to leave for such things. We play songs, records, or playlists to hype us up or get us in the mood for wherever we have to be. But what does one listen to when getting ready for one of the year’s biggest gatherings of personalities from the Philippine music industry?

Our esteemed guests at the Billboard Philippines official launch event on October 15, 2023 at Whitespace in Makati City include top Filipino artists and musicians, artist managers, representatives from record labels, friends from the media, and more. They are some of the biggest music lovers and enthusiasts in the country, so we asked some of them what they listened to while dressing up for our party.

Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Raymund Marasigan of Sandwich and Party Pace, BINI, Zild Benitez, Blaster Silonga, Badjao Castro, Unique Salonga, BGYO, Ena Mori, Alex Bruce, James Reid, PLAYERTWO, Jason Dhakal, Inigo Pascual, and more share the songs they played while putting together a look and outfit to achieve the event’s requisite “rock chic” theme. These include “Yugto” (Act) by Rico Blanco, “MRT” by ONE CLICK STRAIGHT, “Kamehameha” by Korean hip-hop group Balming Tiger, “Hunnybee” by New Zealand psych-rockers Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and “California” (the theme to the popular 2000s drama The O.C.) by the now-defunct American rock band Phantom Planet, among others. Some didn’t even hesitate to select their own music, as you’ll see below.
