Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner’s 1992 romantic thriller, The Bodyguard, is getting a remake. Warner Bros. is moving forward with the project, tapping Sam Wrench, who directed the highest-grossing concert film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.

In addition to Swift’s monumental concert tour film, Wrench also directed Netflix’s A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter, BTS: Permission to Dance on Stage – LA, Laufey’s A Night at the Symphony: Hollywood Bowl, and Billie Eilish: Live at the O2 (Extended Cut).

The screenplay will be written by Jonathan Abrams, who made his feature screenwriting debut with Juror #2, Clint Eastwood’s upcoming legal thriller. He also penned the theatrical book for the Broadway musical The Heart of Rock and Roll, which features music and lyrics by Huey Lewis and the News.

The original follows famous pop star Rachel Marron (Houston), who is being stalked and receives a series of death threats. She hires former Secret Service agent Frank Farmer (Costner) to be her bodyguard. The two initially don’t get along, but over time, they begin to fall in love. As the threats become more dangerous, Frank must do everything he can to keep Rachel safe — even if it means risking his own life.

Despite receiving mixed reviews, the film earned two Academy Award nominations for Best Original Song: “I Have Nothing” and “Run to You.” Both were ultimately bested by “A Whole New World” from Aladdin.

To this date, The Bodyguard still holds the record for the best-selling soundtrack album of all time, with over 50 million copies sold worldwide. The soundtrack featured Houston’s iconic cover of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” as the lead single
