“Music is about to sound better.” Spotify has finally introduced Lossless Audio listening for its Premium subscribers and users — which, as of this writing, is slowly rolling out in select markets.
One of the most-anticipated features to arrive on the streaming service, Lossless allows users to stream songs in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC, and listen to every track in the highest, immersive quality possible.
The addition of the feature comes after Spotify’s popular offerings that include AI Playlist, DJ, Jam, Mix, and daylist.
“We’ve taken time to build this feature in a way that prioritizes quality, ease of use, and clarity at every step, so you always know what’s happening under the hood. With Lossless, our premium users will now have an even better listening experience,” says Gustav Gyllenhammar, VP Subscriptions of Spotify.
The feature provides every detail of the music to the listeners, with audio files being larger. It may take a while for users to have a track played. But once it’s cached and loaded, it’s all good to go.
Enabling Lossless needs to be done manually per device. It will appear in the Now Playing view when you listen to music.
Custom settings for Wi-Fi, cellular, and downloads allow users to choose Low, Normal, High, and Very High — with Lossless quality providing flexibility and control. Users can track how much data is required before choosing a specific setting.
Here’s how to enable the exciting new feature:
- Tap your profile icon found in the top right
- Head over to Settings & Privacy, then Media Quality
- Select where you want to enable Lossless Audio: Wi-Fi, cellular, downloads
Lossless is available on mobile, desktop, and tablet, as well as on other devices that support Spotify Connect. According to Spotify, the best listening experience is streaming lossless music on Wi-Fi with wired headphones or speakers that are connected, not via Bluetooth.
Premium subscribers will receive a notification once the feature becomes available on their devices and accounts.
