It may be the final few days of March, yet Ligaya Escueta has just released a brand new single, titled “June.”

The newly released track sees the rising shoegaze-dreampop musician embracing a different type of song in her growing repertoire, particularly that of a love song –– which differs significantly from the more emotionally charged entries off her sophomore album, Dollweb. Through sonically reiterating the ache of young romance with soft, almost ethereal melodies, it tugs at listeners’ heartstrings while paying homage to her influences, such as the Cocteau Twins.

“Love songs have always been hard for me to write. I just feel like so much has been said about love that it kind of feels so overwhelming to try to sum it up in a song,” said Escueta about the song in an official press statement. “A lot of lyrics came easily to me. I got the choruses done quickly, but was only able to finish the verse lyrics in the car on the way to a gig, which is a funny story. I really love how you can get lost in the heaviness of their music, but still feel the emotion through the chord choices and lyrics as well,” she then continued.

June marks Escueta’s latest musical release, following the release of her second album, Dollweb, in January 2025. The album spawned the singles “12 Steps” and “Novelty”, which also preceded her involvement in the Eraserheads’ Cutterpillow tribute album, wherein she reimagined the track “Back2Me” alongside Diego’s Scenes.

Ligaya Escueta first debuted in the scene with the release of her first single, “The End”, back in 2020. She then dropped her debut album, Laughing In Milk, in July 2022, before signing to Offshore Music in 2023.
