The beloved and long-running educational children’s show Sesame Street is officially heading to Netflix as its new exclusive streaming home.
This move follows Warner Bros. Discovery’s decision not to renew the program for its Max streaming platform, now rebranded back to HBO Max, as of last December. The platform had hosted episodes since 2016. Existing episodes will remain available there until 2027.
Although Sesame Street will continue to air on PBS, the American free-to-air television network, Netflix has secured exclusive streaming rights to the next three seasons of Sesame Street, along with access to its vast library of archival episodes and over 90 hours of classic content. In addition to streaming, Netflix is also set to expand the Sesame Street universe through video games tied to the main series and its spinoff, Sesame Street: Mecha Builders.
Additionally, each episode will now center around an eleven-minute narrative, with a stronger focus on heart and character-driven humor. The upcoming season also promises the return of fan-favorite segments like Elmo’s World and Cookie Monster’s Food Truck. New segments will also be introduced, including Cookie Cart featuring Cookie Monster, and Abby’s Favorite Garden, which showcases magical creatures.
For over fifty years, Sesame Street has been a cornerstone of children’s television, educating and entertaining generations with beloved characters like Elmo, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Oscar the Grouch, Ernie, Bert, and Abby Cadabby.
Artists and bands who have made guest appearances on the show include One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Cher, SZA, Billie Eilish, Alicia Keys, Backstreet Boys, R.E.M. and Destiny’s Child.
