For the last six months, Billboard Philippines has been home to the country’s only data-driven music charts.

Since July 2024, we’ve tracked the songs climbing up the ranks — the latest releases that have instantly made waves across the country, and the timeless classics Filipinos can’t let go of — every week through our flagship charts: the Philippines Hot 100 and the Top Philippine Songs. They’ve become the Philippines’ definitive source for the biggest and hottest songs in the country, accurately reflecting the listening habits of the entire country and showcasing music trends as they happen.

But, how do the charts work?

As we approach 2025 and gear up for a whole new year of new music trends and releases, let’s take a deep dive into how Billboard Philippines’ music charts work.

Listen And Watch

Music charts, regardless of what kind and their criteria, have always been about listing the songs that people have been listening to, from fan-voted favorite tracks to popular songs that have been trending online. But what makes Billboard Philippines’ music charts unique is that it ranks songs objectively, solely based on their performance on streaming on audio and video platforms every week.

This means that the Philippines Hot 100 and Top Philippine Songs chart are an exact reflection of what the entire country is listening to, be it your favorite artist’s newest release or a classic hit from years ago. No votes, no polls; it’s just what people are streaming and watching. So, if you want to support your favorite artists and have them land on the charts, the best way to do it is by streaming their songs.

Collect

Data — taken from streams, views, and even song sales — are then collected and compiled on a weekly basis from the top audio and video services within the Philippines by our data partner Luminate, the industry’s most distinguished music and entertainment data provider.

Calculate

After compiling all the data, it’s now time to count and calculate the numbers of the week. Data is calculated based on a weighted formula that looks at official streams on audio and video music platforms, at both subscription and ad-supported tiers. The charts also take into account download sales, which are purchases made directly from full-service digital music retailers.

Build

Once the data is all counted and calculated, a song’s ranking on the chart is then determined based on the chart’s criteria and scope. For example, the Top Philippine Songs only looks at the top 25 local songs that have been streamed, watched, and bought the most that week, while the Philippines Hot 100 looks at every single song — be it international or local — that were streamed, watched, and bought the most.

The charts are then generated, giving the country a definitive ranking of the biggest songs in Philippines that week.
