OPM music videos have really shone this year, and the MYX Music Awards 2024 made sure to highlight this.

Last night’s (November 21) MYX Music Awards 2024 celebrated OPM in all its forms, giving honor to each of the artists that formed the soundscape of 2024. Highlighting the various music videos that came out from local artists this year, the awards show paid tribute not only to the artists behind the songs, but the directors and creative minds behind these media.

The night was made bright and vibrant as a number of the nominated acts took the stage to perform some of their biggest hits. Kicking off the event was “NVMD” hitmaker Denise Julia, captivating the audience with her stage presence and confidence as she sang “thinkin’ bout u” and “B.A.D.” Following right after her set were the Aces of P-pop, BGYO. Lighting up the stage with a live rendition of their latest comeback, “Trash,” the group hiked the energy up through the roof with their ‘fresh pop’ sound. Swinging in hit after hit, Dionela made his entrance on the stage with his 2024-defining hit “Sining,” turning the heat up with a more upbeat take on the R&B record.

For the fourth set, up-and-coming electro-pop band Nameless Kids took the stage with their coming-of-age-esque single, “Gabi.” Next on the lineup of performances for the night was the self-proclaimed “cheesy storyteller” himself, TJ Monterde. Ushering in a calmer energy for the evening, he serenaded the audience with his infectiously sweet chart-topper, “Palagi.” Claiming the stage with her distinct vocal color, rising R&B star DEMI showcased her certified hit “Pakundangan (feat. Hev Abi)” alongside a live band for an energizing take on the downbeat track.

Celebrating their year of many milestones as well, Over October took the audience on a whirlwind journey with their sentimental indie/pop song, “Ikot.” Bringing a splash of P-pop back into the night, ALAMAT performed both their fan-favorite “Maharani” and latest release “Hiraya” all in one set, enchanting the audience with their bright energy and immaculate choreography. Maki then embraced the stage with his charm and warm energy as he sang his chart-topping “Dilaw,” bringing his co-star in the song’s music video, BINI’s Maloi, on stage for a sentimental moment.

Throughout the night, there appeared to be a recurring theme of appreciation for Philippine hip-hop, and this seemed to all build up towards the MYX Magna Awardee — Gloc-9 — who received the prestigious award for his acclaimed work all throughout his career and beyond. Commemorating the artist’s legacy, a number of OPM’s finest, namely Arthur Nery, Flow G, Ice Seguerra, Sassa Dagdag, Hero, and Loonie, took to the stage to perform a medley of the rap icon’s best hits.

Overall, the MYX Music Awards was a night shared amongst artists and fans to celebrate the rapid expansion and growth that local music has experienced over the past year, and gave the spotlight — and awards — to the artists who paved the way for this to happen.
