Zayn returns with his fifth studio album, Konnakol, marking a decade since the release of his debut solo record, Mind of Mine.
Released through Mercury Records, the album is a follow-up to “Dusk Til Dawn” singer’s fourth album, Room Under the Stairs, in May 2024.
In a press statement, Zayn talked about the meaning behind the album’s title: “Konnakol, in its definition, is the act of creating percussive sounds with one’s voice, but what it means to me lies somewhere much deeper. It is a sound that holds the reverberation of a time before words existed.”
He adds that he finds inspiration in his heritage since he started his own music, attributing his growth as a musician through the years.
The album’s cover, which features Zayn’s face morphed into a snow leopard, was first teased at his mini Las Vegas residency, held over seven nights, in January. The shows featured a mix of fan-favorite tracks like “PILLOWTALK,” “iT’s YoU,” and “sHe,” as well as unreleased songs “Nusrat,” “Used to the Blues,” and “Fatal.”
Zayn follows his fellow One Direction brothers Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson with new records in the same time span. Styles gears up for his fourth album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, in May, while Tomlinson released his third studio album, How Did I Get Here?, in January.
