Toneejay Releases New Single ‘Bagong Tradisyon’

Toneejay is back with a new single.

Following his breakout viral hit “711”, the Filipino indie singer-songwriter dropped his latest single “Bagong Tradisyon”. Serving as his first release of the year, the track is a sweet love song that talks about starting new traditions as you begin a new chapter of your life with someone special.

Last year, Toneejay topped Billboard’s Philippines Songs chart and Spotify’s Philippines’ Top 50 Chart with “711”, which was also listed as one of Billboard Philippines‘ top songs of 2023. The single, which he released last September, marks a new era of the singer’s music, Toneejay shares in an interview with Billboard Philippines.

“It was a rediscovery of my love for [indie rock]…I felt like myself again,” he reveals.

“My lyrics are more conversational [now],” he shares. In a way, he’s veered away from the poetry-style of writing. In TONEEJAY’s eyes, this isn’t a bad thing. In fact, it’s the manifestation of his journey of rediscovering himself. “Hindi mo kailangan ng (You don’t need) deep words to articulate something profound or deep. You just have to use the exact word that you’re thinking [about], even if it’s simple. Now, I write with the intention of [figuring out] what the exact word will be to describe this [feeling or story].”

Most recently, Toneejay was a guest at Billboard Philippines‘ Soundwave and Volumes. In his episode of the latter, the singer shared the story behind his viral hit “711” and his plans for the new year, revealing that there’s more music coming ahead.
