The Weeknd (also known as Abel Tesfaye) has just announced that he will be delaying the release of his upcoming album, Hurry Up Tomorrow.
The record’s release — which chart-topping musician shared the news on his official social media platforms — has been delayed in respect for those affected by the Los Angeles wildfires. Together with the album’s delay, his forthcoming Rose Bowl concert was also postponed to an unspecified date, while Hurry Up Tomorrow has been given a new release date of January 31, 2025. Check out the full statement posted below:
“Out of respect and concern for the people of the Los Angeles county, I am canceling the Rose Bowl concert originally scheduled for January 25th.
The city has always been a profound source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts are with everyone impacted during this time.
In light of this, I have also decided to push the release of my album to January 31st.
My focus remains on supporting the recovery of communities and aiding its incredible people as they rebuild.
With love,
Abel.”
Aside from Tesfaye, Beyoncé has also recently stated the postponement of her scheduled announcement for January 14, 2025, citing the Los Angeles wildfires as the main reason behind it. “I continue to pray for healing and rebuilding for the families suffering from trauma and loss,” her statement mentioned.
Tesfaye’s Hurry Up Tomorrow marks the highly awaited conclusion to his planned album trilogy, which follows after the release of the critically acclaimed Dawn FM and After Hours released in 2022 and 2020 respectively. The record was preceded by the newly released singles, “Sao Paolo” featuring Anitta, “Timeless” with Playboi Carti, and its lead single “Dancing In The Flames.”
Together with the upcoming album, a film of the same name directed by Trey Edward Shults is scheduled for release on May 16, 2025, and will star Jenna Ortega, Barry Keoghan, and Tesfaye himself.
