Tate McRae has just released her third studio album, So Close To What.
The newly released record marks an evolution of the Canadian pop star’s sonic capabilities, leaning further into a more confident and dark-pop-oriented style. With the assistance of producers Ilya, Ryan Tedder, Grant Boutin, Lostboy, and Tyler Spry, McRae is able to establish her signature sound that feels empowered, self-assured, and most of all –– unapologetic.
So Close To What includes the previously released string of singles, “it’s ok I’m ok“, “2 hands“, and “sports car” as part of its fifteen-song tracklist, which spans a total of forty-two minutes and thirty seconds for its runtime. In celebration of the full album’s release, McRae dropped an accompanying music video for the key track “Revolving door” directed by Aerin Moreno. Check out the music video in its entirety below:
The newly released record marks the long-awaited follow-up to McRae’s acclaimed sophomore album, THINK LATER –– which spawned the chart-topping hit singles “greedy” and “exes.” In celebration of the album’s release, she recently performed in Manila for the first time ever last November 2024 to a sold-out crowd at the New Frontier Theatre in Quezon City.
In Billboard Philippines‘ review of the concert, the show was described as a stellar display of her pop star potential, proving “that she is worthy of being recognized as one of the main pop stars (or ‘main pop girlies’ if you will) of this generation.”
