Tate McRae has just announced her third full-length album, titled So Close To What.
Fresh off her Manila performance, the multi-platinum pop star shared its upcoming release date of February 21, 2025, via RCA Records. Tackling raw emotions delivered via Tate’s unfiltered lyricism, the album is set to represent her journey of growing up while navigating the long-winding road of life — even as its destinations get elusive over time. As her creative means of self-discovery, the album is set to be her most introspective record to date, while still keeping the signature allure and catchy hooks that fans have come to love.
Together with the announcement, Tate also dropped her latest single, “2 hands,” which was written and produced by renowned hitmakers Ryan Tedder (Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Lisa, KATSEYE), Lostboy (Tiësto, Kylie Minogue), and Amy Allen (Harry Styles, Justin Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter). The Canadian pop star shared an accompanying music video directed by Bradley & Pablo to celebrate its release, which features choreography by Sean Bankhead Victoria Monét, Lisa, Card B) as it captures her on a fast-paced joyride across a suburban setting.
“‘2 hands’ shows a different side of me than what people are used to,” Tate mentions in an official press statement. “The song captures the feeling of falling in love and how sometimes just being close to someone is all you really need. A genuine connection goes beyond needing constant reassurance or fancy things, simply being together is what matters,” she continues.
Just recently, the “greedy” hitmaker also shared the first single from her new musical era with the viral “It’s ok I’m ok.” Tate herself described the track as a “new chapter” of her music, and released it with a kinetic music video directed by Hannah Lux Davis that showcases her impressive dance skills set against the backdrop of New York City.
