Mariah Carey, Ariana Grande Among Spotify PH's Top Holiday Artists

Spotify Philippines has announced the country’s top streamed holiday artists of 2023 in the lead up for this year’s holiday season.

In a press statement, the music streaming platform revealed that Jose Mari Chan took the top spot as the most streamed holiday artist in the Philippines. Known as the “Father of Philippine Christmas Music,” it’s not a surprise that Chan would be at the very top of the list.

Following Chan is Ariana Grande, who released her own Christmas EP way back in 2015 titled Christmas & Chill. Her first Christmas project, “Santa Tell Me,” was released in 2014 and has since become a Christmastime special. The track has over 970 million streams, just a few million away until it hits the one billion mark.

Occupying the third spot is none other than Mariah Carey, who became the face of Christmas worldwide with “All I Want For Christmas Is You” in 1994. For almost 30 years, the song has become synonymous with the holiday season, spawning various memes whenever it hits the -ber months.

Finally at the fourth and final spot is renowned singer Michael Bublé, whose 2011 Christmas album is home to his unforgettable renditions of songs like “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas” and “Holly Jolly Christmas.”

On the other hand, the most streamed holiday songs in the Philippines are “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by Carey, followed by “Santa Tell Me” by Grande. “Last Christmas” by Wham! occupies the third spot with its incredibly catchy and immediately recognizable chorus. The fourth spot goes to “Christmas in Our Hearts” by Chan, and finally “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” by Brenda Lee, which just recently topped.the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

The Philippines’ most streamed holiday tracks don’t deviate too far from the top streamed songs all over the world. “All I Want For Christmas Is You” continues to hold the top spot, followed by “Last Christmas” and “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree.” Instead of Chan’s “Christmas In Our Hearts,” the fourth spot went to Bobby Helms’ “Jingle Bell Rock.” Finally, Grande’s “Santa Tell Me” wrapped up the list to clinch the fifth spot.

In terms of the most streamed Christmas album and artist of all time, Bublé’s aforementioned Christmas album took the top spot. Carey, Bing Crosby (known for his Christmas Classics album, which includes songs like “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” and “White Christmas”), Grande, and Frank Sinatra (with his A Jolly Christmas From Frank Sinatra record) join Bublé as the most streamed holiday artists globally.

Holiday playlist creation by Spotify users has also spiked over 1,400% since the start of November. Spotify also has its own editorial playlists for the holidays, such as Paskong Pinoy, Christmas Hits, Christmas Classics, Country Christmas, New Music Holiday, and Snow Globe.
