SB19 have returned to Japan’s THE FIRST TAKE for another special rendition of their hit songs — this time performing two of their tracks from their Simula at Wakas EP, “TIME” and “DAM.”
The newly released set of videos showcases the Kings of P-pop delivering yet another series of breathtaking live performances for episodes 602 and 607 of the show, highlighting their expertise in translating an emotional ballad to life (like with “TIME”), or executing the high-octane energy of “DAM” in one straightforward sitting. Yet aside from the technical aspects of their performance, these live performances also showcase the banter that’s evident from the group’s close-knit dynamic.
Check out both live performance videos in their entirety below:
These videos mark the latest set of performances from SB19 on THE FIRST TAKE, following their performances of “GENTO” and “MAPA,” which were released last July 2024. They are also the first-ever Filipino performers to be featured on the show, which prominently features J-pop acts, as well as international talents such as Harry Styles, Laufey, BTS’ V, Tate McRae, aespa, Stray Kids, Umi, and several others.
Following the release of their live THE FIRST TAKE renditions of “GENTO” and “MAPA” on streaming platforms, the group released an official press statement reflecting on what it means to be part of the Japanese showcase. “We’re eternally grateful to THE FIRST TAKE for giving us an opportunity to showcase our work on a platform known not just for its massive global following but for elevating the audio-visual experience of music fans with much-needed authenticity and rawness,” said the “DAM” chart-toppers, after noting how performing on the show challenged them to work within “within our limitations and deliver with the best of our abilities.”
“We’ve always considered performing as a sanctimonious process that deserves utmost preparation, love, and respect,” they continued. “Constantly reminded by THE FIRST TAKE that we can only perform the songs once, we had to reconnect with our roots and embrace the beauty of spontaneity.”
In other SB19 news, the beloved musical quintet recently took home six awards from the first-ever Filipino Music Awards, including prestigious nods in categories such as Artist of the Year, Concert of the Year, Tour of the Year, and Pop Song of the Year for “DUNGKA!” Additionally, having finished their recent show in Bangkok, the group is also set to conclude the final leg of shows for their Simula at Wakas World Tour in Australia and New Zealand this December.
